Fully agreed. The self-righteousness people always make me wonder about the skeletons in their closets. I believe we all sit in a glass house one way or another.

My own rule (which I'm not always sticking to, but try to mostly): Type as if your mother is reading your post.

Sadly, these days every one has a “take”, and many view that as their chance to be hyper aggressive with zero repercussions.

As far as “ambush journalism”, it’s a sad, lazy way to be “a hard nosed journalist”.

It’s hard to believe a guy who is just not a very good racer gets this kind of attention.

He's not solid, that's kind of the problem. If he were mid field speed but didn't make rookie mistakes in his 8th year, it'd be one thing, but he has bottom third speed and makes more mistakes than anyone else in the field. That's not solid mid field.

You bring up good points. I don't know enough about Stroll's business dealings to give an opinion on whether he's a good business man or not. I have a very dim view of 'zero sum game' business people and how they operate, whether they make a lot of money or not. I don't think he's that as he seems to try to create more wealth than just squash others to get it, but that's how he's operated in getting Lance to F1. I guess, given the seeming complete shut out of anyone else getting into f1 (see Andretti), that truly is a zero sum game so he's playing it, but in growing his other businesses and the car side of Aston, it does not seem that way. So sure, he seems to be good at that.

Now would I criticize Lance to his face? No, I can't see any good that would come of that, so why bother? Just to get it off my chest? This is an appropriate forum for the discussion, so I'll have it, but unless point blank asked my opinion by Stroll, I wouldn't just volunteer it. If that infinitesimal small chance were to happen, sure I'd provide my honest opinion, but to your point, I would not be so harsh in delivering it as I have here. I would provide the same opinion, though.

Social media are like "safety valves" in today's world; people can express extreme opinions in all impunity.

It's probably better to have a rant in a forum about someone you don't like, than going in the streets with a knife in your pocket in hope of meeting him. We see that too often these days.

People are increasingly callous over the decades, and society is becoming mentally sick. The facts prove me right.

Is it an extreme position to say somebody doesn't belong in f1? I don't think that's 'extreme' at all, and judging by the majority in this thread, it's more extreme to think he does belong. There seem to be maybe 2 or 3 that find a defense for it that's along the lines of 'it's his money' and none that seem to think he's there on merit.

What's "extreme" is the some of the comments. There's a way to communicate things without calling someone a dickhead, as an example.

Well, this year's car is behind schedule; when the car was an schedule(ish) as last year, see the difference with Alonso.
We have talked plenty in this thread, yes, he can race (not Crashonaldo, Torpedo or Latifi), but it is not going to be consistently
getting the maximum from the car. In my view, he hasn't crashed much lately, because he's not pushing and thus he's a lot slower.
A good fit there would be Albon -- that would be a good combo with Alonso.

Yeah, and the truth is he's consistently off the pace and crashed more often than his teammate (and most of the rest of the grid). So the extreme view would be that he's doing a good job, not that he's doing a poor one and doesn't belong.

The difference between the general feelings toward Latifi vs. Stroll is amusing. Beyond being wealthier than Stroll, Latifi very much spent all that was necessary to get into F1 and it took him MANY more years than Stoll to get there. Once in F1 he was soundly crushed by his teammates and barely scrapped together a few points while having his fair share of crashes along the way. On paper there is every reason for him to be disliked more than Stroll yet Latifi was generally liked and went about his business in a somewhat anonymous way while occupying one of the coveted 20 most desirable drives in all of motor racing. When he retired hardly anyone cared and there were not great celebrations that the back marker rich kid was gone.

By comparison Stroll won multiple championships leading up to F1, has scored a pole position and several podiums, and has not be soundly trounced by his teammates as Latifi was. Again on paper there is no need for the kind of hate he gets yet somehow here we are over 7000 posts later. Food for thought.

Stroll is 1-7 against his teammates so far. Only one he's beaten over a season is Sirotkin, which I don't think anyone would call much of an achievement. I'm not sure what your definition of trounced is, but that's in the territory.

Latifi on only a handful of occasions in his entire career outqualified his teammate and was even shut out a few seasons. Again in races he only ever beat a teammate when they had a technical issue or accident. I'm not sure if he ever beat a teammate on pace in a race (I could be wrong). By comparison Latifi got crushed by his teammate much like Sargent is currently getting trounced. Stroll has fared significantly better against arguably much more accomplished teammates. Agreed that Massa, Alonso, and Vettel were all later in their careers but they continued to be fine drivers even if not at their absolute peak.

Russell who is on his way to beating 7x champ Hamilton 2 out of 3 years and Albon who destroyed Latifi worse than Russell. I would say Latifi had some tough teammates.

I think Stroll is better than Latifi, but most drivers are and it doesn't make Stroll acceptable.

In addition Stroll is Canada's third most succesful F1 driver (Latifi is also Canadian).

Nobody is arguing Latifi is any good. He was gone after 3 seasons, one too many, honestly. Stroll is 4 or 5 seasons past due to be replaced.

    Probably both.

Stroll was stellar in Q1 but screwed up in Q2.

    Alonso screwed up Q1 period.

Now they're just a few spots apart and this being Monaco I doubt either will make it into the points. A write-off race for AM.

One thing is certain, the whole team is going backwards since the beginning of this season..
Lawrence Stroll won’t tolerate this for too long I’m sure.

Well, nothing as bad as how they went backwards last year. I hope they find the turn around soon. With the new factory they have all the means now. Not sure why they can't make a better car.

I'm sorry but something seems fishy.

Stroll will never improve. After 2018 or 2019 he has peaked. He has proven this fact. Once in awhile he can put together a lap, but for the most part he has plateaued long ago.

Alonso is one of the all time greats, and might be the best all time at maximizing a cars potential... at least consistently.

Now at the two hardest tracks to pass, Alonso hasn't got out of Q1, and Stroll has looked like the better driver in 3 consecutive sessions.

Last year we saw it, Alonso obliterates Stroll and is super happy with the car. AMR bring "upgrades", the car goes backwards relative to competition, Alonso's performance goes down, and Stroll gets better. We really saw a turn in performance after the fans, the media, and pretty much everyone on the planet said Stroll needs to get fired. Same thing this year, Alonso was clear of Stroll by half a second, AMR bring updates, Alonso doesn't look as comfortable in the car, Stroll looks to be better. All of this after everyone on the planet is shouting Stroll needs to get fired. Stroll has never got out of Q3 in Monaco, despite having the 2nd best car on a couple of occasions, and he once again failed. Yet Alonso is a former pole sitter. We aren't talking about a tenth and a couple of grid positions. Alonso is being wrecked by Stroll.

Given the history of corruption and buying success from the Stroll's, it is absolutely plausible they have once again thrown their money and power around to falsify results to making Stroll look good. I don't care what anyone says, they have done this crap so many times before. Buying F3 team, having illegal parts made in a spec series, paying off the teammates to let Stroll win, buying their way into F1, buying an F1 team, illegally copying the 2019 championship Mercedes, always putting Stroll #1 over every teammate despite being the worst driver. The list goes on.

No matter how good Stroll does on merit, I will never believe he and his pos father didn't have their manipulative corrupt scummy hands in the pie to fake their way through it.
