Not sure why Newey's ideas wouldn't already trickle down into the 25 car let alone the 26 car.

Lance is a midfield driver. If he gets the best car of the field he will end up on the podium occasionally. Just look at history (Patrese in the Brabham, Surer in the Brabham, Massa in the Ferrari etc).

 

The only race Lance was in the lead for ½ race distance is Turkey 2020.

What is Marc foing in the same sentence as Ricardo and Felipe???? Because the last two are far better than midfield drivers...

 

I have to agree with JV on this one. Aston Martin has won nothing. They are proven losers under the Stroll administration. The prime example is 2023 having the 2nd best car with one of the best drivers and loads of wind tunnel and CFD time and they managed to piss it away to become as bad as the 6th best car by year end.

I'm not convinced Newey can make that team a proper winning team, though I sure would love to see Alonso get another victory in the next 2 years.

 

Newey can make that a winning team. What they'll need to do is drop Lance, or at the very least don't cater to his wishes.

 

Newey can be part of a winning team. There is more than design. Implementation of it, open flow of information and a minimization of ego and personality to allow the talent to thrive. Sounds idealistic but you cant just throw a big name and money around to succeed. Aston appear to now have talent in place at a high level, the execution piece will be critical and drivers are key to that focus. FA is that strength certainly. Not caring much about Lance as little is ever published about his 'feedback' or anything else. Its speculation as to how effective that is.

I have a feeling the 25 car will be one to get on through the season with as the focus will be 2026 and later. Some patience will be needed for Aston and Williams as well.

Hence the word can and not will...Aston would be total idiots to throw this much money at not only Newey but also that masssive factory and everything else if only to ignore the advices given by having these people around. Lawrence didn't have this much success at life to ignore the advice of all those experts, surely. I know he wants his son to win but the writing has been on the wall for some time.

I suspect they have a delusion that Newey will make Lance Stroll a World Champion.

Given equal cars, 5. Haas did not look good at testing, so 4 max.

 

Id not say Stroll is that BAD but if lebron james junior and his dad get all that heat for nepotism and getting him in the NBA so should the strolls !

 

Lance just doesn't have the chops. Better drivers than him, in better cars, have struggled and failed. Makes me believe that Poppa is in it for just for his son. Anyone who is serious about competing for an F1 Championship would have replaced Lance long long long ago. I think Alonzo is beyond bored at AM...in 2026 I see him going to HAAS when Bearman goes to Ferrari.

 

i like ollie. worried about his paring. i don't think ocon was a good pickup for Haas

 

I agree with you. To me, this was the most puzzling move of the offseason.

 

Ollie would benefit from mentorship by an experienced old hand. Ocon is just a nasty SOB in the cockpit, not a team player.

 

So maybe for 2026, Haas keeps Ollie, dumps Ocon and replaces him with Alonzo. But the bottom line is that if Papa Stroll is serious about F1, he has to stop wasting the seat on his son. And Alonzo needs to move if he cares about his driving.

 

Alonso is trying to hang on for a Newey designed car. The clock is ticking . . .
