Lance Armstroll didn't crashed yet. That's a record. Whe can expect another Verstappen or another Maldonado?
I hope he can just have a clean race starting from the back,no heroics needed...just bring it home. It's a real baptism of fire, these cars are seriously fast, and if it gets away from you at these speeds on a street circuit you will most likely end up in the barriers.
I think that we will see a lot of contact in the race. These cars are seriously fast and who knows how the aero will work in traffic?
True. You can see how he's over driving the car in the on board footage. He needs to settle down or it's game over. When he leaves, he can take Palmer with him. It's a shame to see such a blatant waste of two f1 seats that should be filled by competent drivers.
Stroll is slow and completely bereft of talent. There are club racers racing LMP3 cars who are faster. Let's hope the effeminate Canuck and his fat father who looks like a butch lesbian (in my humble opinion only homosexuals and sailors are called Lawrence) realize that quickly.
Disruptive, trolling, and ungentlemanly posts are not welcome. In accordance to the zero tolerance enforcement policy of the F1 forum, a 1-month ban has been applied. Please do not resume this tone upon your return: Quite right to point that out, William. I agree that such language is wildly inappropriate. All the best, Andrew.
It's quite clear F1 is out of his league...at the moment. Maybe he needs another one more full year of testing and practice. I just hope he won't cause any incident in more challenging and fast circuits upcoming soon.
Yes he's completely out of his depth. He's trying too hard to correct the car, but in reality the car will correct itself anyhow. Prior to his off, he was 65 seconds (!) behind Massa already. Remember, Massa is a retiree, well and truly left F1 last year. Stroll has a huge amount of experience in Hybrid F1 cars, more than most current drivers if not all of them (obviously not in racing terms, but driving around at speed, certainly!). There is no reason, none, that he should be 2 to 3 seconds a lap slower than Massa. If this continues, and it will...well, he'll still be in F1 won't he? As long as the money keeps flowing in, Williams will keep him employed. And trust me...Williams is making stupid amounts of money off stroll, no matter his performance. But that's not the way Williams should conduct its business, is it? Williams is a top team that should only recruit credible drivers, and not rely on pay drivers to balance the books.
True. I would expect Williams think this way too, but had a lack of funds big enough to need the Stroll blood money to properly fund the team.
But that's no way to obtain good results and in the end, the sponsors (Martini) may go somewhere else. Between a fading start like Massa (truly at the end of his career) and an unknown quantity like Stroll, Williams drivers line-up don't look too good. It will be difficult for them to beat Force India this year, IMO.
Of course. But teams are also reduced to this right now due to sheer running costs of F1. Had the cars not been so outrageously expensive to run as they are now, and F1 didn't lose as many viewers, teams would have an easier time finding sponsors, and more favourable, quicker drivers would be available. Would they bring sponsors? Maybe, money is always welcome, but they'd have the luxury of being able to make the right choice to get the right driver, and not a complete embarrassment. Stroll was dropped from FDA for a good reason.
Exactly. Currently they're fighting Force India with a team of 1, and FI with Perez and Ocon have a strong team.
Iirc Stroll had pretty decent results leading up to F1. Last year Toto even commented that he rated him better than Verstappen (i know). Look at how Perez turned out, strong driver + $$ is the jackpot for a midfield team. Can't blame them for giving it a go.
Times are changing for teams like Williams and they don't have the funds backed by large companies like Daimler, Red Bull, and Fiat to only get quality drivers. They have to take the risk of getting a pay-driver to bring enough to keep the team running while being fast enough to keep the rest of the sponsors happy enough to pay the fees. The risk being if the driver sucks and the cars don't get the exposure the sponsors want, the other sponsors leave and the team is hurt in the long run. So hopefully Massa can keep the car getting decent results... At least McLaren has a road car division now...Williams future IMO does not look good and I rather they win a WCC than anyone else.
