    +1

I hope his performance this weekend will allow him to stay in F1 next year.

His dad's $ will likely assure that. Not to be sarcastic, but lets be honest.

My bigger question is more: Who will partner him? Now that they had a lot more time to look for a #2, who is it going to be? For the most part the Williams is not so bad a car (except Spa), so a few drivers might be attracted to it.

I'd love to see Alonso in it. Stroll might learn a few things from the grand master.

Surely Lawrence Stroll cannot bankroll his son's career for ever?

In the long run, it may be cheaper to buy a team!

I mean...Massa was right on his exhaust at the end despite starting much father back. Felipe will continue to own him. No doubt about that.

The person that disappointed me most in this race was Kimi, the way Dan took him was embarrassing and he never seems to fight anyone except Bottas

Crashed? Both were race incidents and in the end he won the position. Stroll on the other hand didn't have the balls to risk a single move during the entire race.

+1 large difference between making the effort to race and driving around in circles hoping to hold a position. Stroll is a spectator in a car. Without pay he doesnt find a team to take him. Brundle was clear about his lack of experience and lack of confidence on the brakes. He's not at all a racer. Ocon is light years ahead of the so called F1 driver. Its an utter joke so far.

Again would anyone here hire him as a driver?????

I would not at all. Much better choices avail.

His best finish at Monza in Jr Formula was 11th and he doesnt care for Spa. Oh this man is just F1 to his core LOL!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair Kimi was on the oldest tyres of everyone, the slower compound...Ricciardo had the newest tyres on track and supersofts at that. It was always going to happen no way around it. Red Bull had the highest top speed (very low downforce). The move was great though, he came from so far back!

Kimi was on worn out Soft Tires. Unfortunately Ferrari pulled him in to do an "undercut" on Stroll and Ocon when he had perfectly good 13 lap Supersofts. The undercut worked on Stroll but not Ocon.

Riccardo and Max started on the Softs and made those things last A LOT!! Kimi was a sitting duck for Riccardo when he had fresh Supersofts and he made one hell of a late brake which was amazing.

I'm proud of Kimi, he went wheel to wheel with Bottas in the first lap. Very clean aggressive racing by the two Finns. No whining or complaining from the two unlike Magnessun the cheap shot baby

I hear what you're saying , AND I'm a Kimi fan but, I see less and less fight from Kimi each week.

I think for a single qualifying lap he is still as fast as ever but his attacking ability has waned markedly

I hear what you're saying too, but for this particular instance, fighting Ricciardo would've always been a losing battle as Ocon/Williamses where within 4 seconds orso...spend 2-3 laps fighting Ricciardo and he'd be in their DRS range...Could've been costly!

Added to the tyre situation, Kimi's rear suspension took a bit of a clout from Bottas' Mercedes, and Kimi spent most of the race querying the fact that something didn't feel right at the rear of the car.

No Stroll, you got schooled at the start. Ocon outbraked you going into the chicane.

Qualifs are in fact a very good indicator of talent, IMO.

In this case, completely out of the blue, a F1 neophyte in a customer team outclassed 2 world champions in the rain and in Ferrari's backyard.

It doesn't mean that Stroll is better than Raikkonen or Vettel, of course, but it gives a measure of Ferrari counter-performance on that day.

Nobody gave a reasonable excuse about that, although Vettel tried to gloss over it in an interview. I think that must have provoked some head scratching at Maranello...

I will be looking more closely to Stroll in future; maybe he can deliver more unexpected brilliant performances from time to time.

The excuse for Ferrari beaten by Stroll in qualifying was that they already were on a dry setup. Well that worked great with getting beaten by over 30 seconds by cars running at reduced power. Ferrari is in trouble

    Exactly.

Now, the reason given is that too much downforce was taken off at the back to improve top speed, making the cars unstable under braking during the race, and preventing the drivers to attack. That seems a reasonable explanation.

On fast circuits, it's always a trade off between top speed and stability, and it's a balancing act to find the best compromise. This weekend, Ferrari didn't find the best set up. They have to find out who decided that course of action.

Credit where credit is due - starting on the front row was a significant moment for Stroll. Apparently, he had never driven an f1 car in the rain. Think about that for a moment. Driving any race car in the rain is a far more challenging prospect than the dry. Just keeping the thing on track is unbelievably hard when the pace picks up. Being able to pedal an F1 car fast enough to get towards the top of the time sheets is a clearl indicator of skill and, in my view, is the single most reliable way to see which drivers are exceptional vs mearly very very good.

That was totally unexpected and immediately pushed him up the f1 driver ranks now. No longer can we consider him in the same league as Palmer. He is better than that.

So - now we know he has genuine speed. What he doesn't have is race craft. No idea if he can learn that, but I wish him all the best with that.

  25. One lucky Q session is all it takes to convince you? God bless.....
I have a neat little bridge in New York I can sell you cheap...want it?

I want to see him do well to stifle all the naysayers but this weekend in itself isn't all it takes for me.
