    Did he really?

let's see how he compares to his team mate Massa for qualifying in China:

    Q1:

    Massa: 1:34.205
    Stroll: 1:33.986

So Stroll started off qualifying 0.219 seconds faster than Massa.

    Fair enough - Good job.

    Q2:

    Massa: 1:33.759
    Stroll: 1:34.090

By Q2 though, he was down to Massa by 0.331 seconds.

Not horrific, but not brilliant either.

    Q3:

    Massa: 1:33.507
    Stroll: 1:34.220

By Q3 the gap was 0.713 seconds

    Hmm........ that's not too clever!

So as qualifying went on, Grandpa Massa got faster and faster, whilst Baby Stroller got slower and slower!

Had Stroll just been pipped by his team mate and finished qualifying right behind him then I'd yes, give him a pat on the back, but overall he dropped 0.932 seconds to his team mate and finished up four places behind him. That to Me is not impressive!

As for those saying Williams is a top team - Williams haven't been a top team for a number of years now!

They haven't won a race since Spain 2012, and they haven't won a WDC or WCC since 1997 - Some 20 years ago!

The fact is, today Williams are a mid-field mediocre team trying to trade on their past glories and dreaming of a come-back one day!

For their last few seasons, their car design philosophy has been based on damage limitation. The cars have been deliberately designed to be fast in a straight line in order to help prevent others over taking them, whilst not taking too many risks or being too adventurous!

Yep. Accepting a position at Williams is the end of your F1 career at the moment, whether engineer or floor sweeper.

It is a management issue IMO ... their shocking driver management (screwing) in the past hints that they deserve what they are getting?

I think Stroll did pretty good yesterday, yes Massa improved his time whilst Stroll maintained his own times within 0.2.

He looked a lot more steady than in Melbourne and i can imagine he decided to not push it too hard ,ending up in the barriers again.. the fact he got into Q3 in itself is an achievement. He had a good start in Melbourne so lets see how he gets on today. Some points would be great.

That car is getting better and with Paddy there now and a lot of other talents arriving there are looking like the best of the rest at least.

Maybe Alonso will be trying to get a drive there in 2018?

Lance got punted by Sergio "Pinky" Perez. Trump should build a wall around that guy.

Stroll could have given more space but he was ahead of Perez and got kicked out due to Perez being overambitious. Not Stroll's fault.

His front axle was decently behind Stroll's cockpit. No doubt is was Stroll's corner and thus his line to chose.

I have gone by this rule, if the car in front(outside) going into the apex has more than 50% of his car in front of the second car(inside), the car(inside) has to yield....note: speed is a factor as in both seemed to be at an equal speed.

I have seen where the second car(inside) is traveling at a high rate of speed going into the apex thereby resulting in a collision with the first car who was ahead going into the apex.

Racing incident. I'm so freakin' tired of people criticizing drivers for being too aggressive and then tell us the racing is "boring".

They both tried hard. One came out forward and the other backward. Stuff happens but it was not intentional.

He should still have known that there was a good chance that Perez would be alongside him to one degree or another, aired on the side of caution and left space for Perez rather than trying to cut across him to claim the corner.

Instead, he tried to make a statement to a driver not noted for backing out of a wheel to wheel situation, and it went tits up for him!

If you look at what the more experienced drivers did in similar situations, they were leaving space, and were able to continue racing.

"Having the corner" means jack s:censored:t if it means you end up the kitty litter going nowhere!

Had stroll aired on the side of caution and left space then he may have come away from China with a couple of points.

By not leaving space, he got nothing, and Perez leaves China with 2 points!

There's a lesson to be learnt there - If he's smart enough! ;)

Stroll was unlucky, but stuff like that happens on the first lap. Perez was a little too optimistic, he was nowhere close enough to claim the corner. Sure, Stroll could have left more room, but as a rookie, setting a precedent that you're driving in your mirrors and leaving everybody an invitation to dive inside is not a good plan. Perez wouldn't have tried that move on Verstappen, and he likely won't try it again on Stroll.

Meanwhile, Stroll's more experienced teammate had the worst performance of all the race finishers, dropping 8 places from his start position - 6th to 14th... and it wasn't even a wet race after the first few laps! The only car he beat was Ericsson in the Sauber.

How did the: "Slam the door shut into the corner!" plan go again for Stroll?

I'd say the: "Leave a bit of room and stay in the race" plan would have gone much better!

Yes he will! (and I seriously doubt he wouldn't have tried it with Verstappen either!)

He tried it on Stroll today and he got 2 points for his trouble, whilst Stroll took a stroll across the kitty litter with nothing to show.

As for Verstappen: Try re-watching his first lap today - Very cautious where he needed to be, attacked where he could, and he left space for other cars that might be along side him to avoid being bumped off the track Stroll-style.

Then once the race settled down a bit, he picked other cars off beautifully!

And out of all the non-finishers, Stroll had the worst performance of all, failing to even get to turn 11, let alone complete a lap.

Massa had a crap race, but he was still circulating at the end of the Grand Prix, and that stands a much better chance of getting points than being parked in the kitty litter part way round the first lap!

Someone needs to have a word with baby Stroll. He is obviously over driving. You can see that clearly from his onboard footage. He is so zoned into wrestling with his own car that he has little bandwidth available to think about what's going on around him. If he can learn to relax a bit, he will go faster and race smarter. Win. Alternatively, he can keep buying Williams new cars every week until daddy's piggy bank runs dry.
