The track is a lot of fun. The new resurfacing is very nice. I had expected it to be slick due to the new surface but instead it is very grippy. Street tires howl around the turns. I've been coming to this track almost every year since 1996, and it has always been great fun. In spite of this, I still have trouble finding a comfortable line around turn 4. I've gotten pretty comfortable with taking turn nine very fast (squeezing on the acceleration and no brakes from turn 7, thru the kink at turn 8, and WOT before the apex to turn 9) to get maximum speed at the end of the front straight We had 3 drivers (my son, daughter, and myself) for our one 360, so the car saw tons of track time. Friday morning was very wet so we stayed on street Pirellis for the day. Saturday we switched to Kuhmo V710s as it was clear and dry. Lou
This weekend was an extremely great time. From the moment I arrived to the time I left there was such a warm, welcoming, and friendly atmosphere. The event was very low-key and the entire weekend makes you look forward to the next event. There was TONS of track time. I was exausted from being on course. Charles did a great job putting things together and enough cannot be said for the entire Ferrari of Atlanta staff, drivers, and owners. I have been around motorsports for a long time and have been around various Ferrari dealers throughout the years. This was my first experience with FoA and I cannot think of a better group of guys to deal with. Ed Wettach was as welcoming and friendly as they come. We had great conversations and even went to dinner with their group on Friday Night. I take my hat off to them anytime. I had the pleasure of driving my first Ferrari 328 on the track and had a great time showing Rich the ropes of high performance driving. To further top of my excellent weekend I had an opportunity to help Phil, the owner of the 430Challenge, sharpen some of his techniques while sitting shotgun in the car. The best words to describe the 430challenge...WOW!!!! I've driven the 360Challenge and the new 430 makes the 360 seem "sloppy"....it really is THAT GREAT! The immense speed and capabilities of the 430 far exceed most cars I have been in and driven on racetracks. The Ferrari truly is a precision engineered machine. The 430 is raw. It is confident, predictable, powerful, and a rewarding experience. Ed, Wade, Kevin, and the rest of the FoA guys...thanks for a great time. Charles, you did a great job of putting things together. I know that isn't an easy task. Guy, Cory, Phil, Rich, Tim, Carl, Kristen, and everyone else I had the pleasure of meeting...thank you for a memorible weekend. I look forward to the VIR event on Nov. 9th. Nick Gurucharri
Great pics, particularly the shots of the three black 3X8s (all different models!) that open the coverage. And what model Lamborghini is that in the last set?
congrats go to my best friend Joe Frazer, and his 2006 FIRST PLACE win ! he also won First Place last year in his super nice 1979 308 GTS. here are some pics Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Many of us are crashing at the Paddock suites and garages the night before. PM or call me if you can get there Wednesday night. I suspect there might be a beverage or two being served in Danville....
that is Joe's garage. but only ONE SIDE of it. the other side is the mirror image, he can fit 12-13 cars ! full size lift, parts washer, tire balancer, drill presses, sand blaster cabinet, etc.
Actually no, its a spice with with a 348 modified motor.... very sweet car... Ed said it was run by Dyson racing... and was beating the 333's.... so it demands respect! Wade said it has around 580 HP! I think that is what he said and the weight of the car has to be no more than 2000 lbs...it was light to push...
I wish I could have been on track at the same time Wade was. Would have been interesting and fun. I asked Ed but he said Wade wasn't allowed to have fun. Karl
Hey Karl, I think you would have chewed both Ed or Wade up... not that Wade is not a good driver, but dont think he would have the same go for it as you do.... and you have a bit more HP than they do, & less Drag.... hope you get your braking issue resolved... cause the Ultima really moves!!!
Actually if the Spice has 580 hp as someone posted and it does weigh 2000 lbs like all the Imsa cars did back then. The Ultima weighs 2300lbs and has just over 500hp. I am at a disadvantage either way. ED was only having fun. I tried to get him to follow me Saturday afternoon to show him the proper line. He thought I just waved at him as I went by. Wade obviously has the respect he should since the car is not his. It would have been fun to see them both at speed since they were the fastest cars out there, even though the Ultima is not a racecar(it just acts like one) Karl
For some reason I thought you had 600HP... yes, Ed certainly trust's Wade... I think last year he actually went off in the car, and broke it! I've known Ed now for about 13 years, and he is a truly nice man. I would not want to break his car, but I think he would handle it with real class!
