The date will be October 27,28,29 2006 Friday Sat Sun as before. The track did call to offer us the weekend after ( during the HHI car show) BUTTTT--- we can ONLY have the track on Sat & Sun. Since racing till 5pm on Sunday would get everyone home at midnight--i went with the regular weekend. To consider this--we would miss the car show anyway--being that we would all be at the track.
I implore you, anyone who will listen, make sure you mark off both weekends....the FCA event and 2nd annual Hilton Head Island Concours vintage track day. They are back to back. The cost was only $90.00, and suddenly you know what it is to be in the movie LeMans...when a Porsche 910, Lola, McLearan, Cooper, Lamborgini, and other noteworthy cars pass you on the front straight. The glorious sounds. Not to mention being confused with Bobby Rahal-that's another story. After the track day, there are vintage driving tours, and then the Festible of Speed, where we can gather and show our cars.
But our track running is only on Friday and Saturday - - while Hilton Head Concours is Thursday through Sunday. Folks wanting to come early can enjoy the vintage/historics on the track on Thursday, we run on Friday and Saturday, and then Sunday it's over to the HH Concours for judging day instead of our own concours and lunch. How does that sound?
I could be speaking out of turn, however, I bet you we could do the following: Run our cars with HHIC vintage track day, pay far less for track time (not that this is an issue with me anyway), have a full day to ourselves as well. The HHIC is for charity, and you get to run just as much (at leasts I did), but with some very cool race cars. I made some really great new friends in Scott Kenedy who runs the event and Bob Pence. I think they will welcome FCA with open arms if you are interested. I know, for many it's about being with Ferraries only. Perhaps I need to change my prespective: I pull for USC, unless they are playing Clemson. Like woman: I love all the woman of the world (ask Charles and Buddy-remember Meow!)-so too do I love all of the race cars even though Ferraries are always a cut above for me. We would still have our private gathering, dinner, etc, and maybe able to show the cars at the full show. I stayed in Harbor Town, and the drive was only 40 min. top to the track. The Westin and others will be closer still. On the other hand, Savannah is a great city, and the event was very well done indeed-THANK YOU CHARLES!!! This comming year will be better still.
One problem I remember from past years running Sat-Sun at Roebling was that no loud exhausts were allowed on Sunday till Noon. Memory tends to fade with age, so I may be missing a detail. Anyway, that would be something to check on if we were ever to make the change. I'm not sure how many people mind the current arrangement of taking off work on Friday for track, but it has worked out for me at least.
You may be right, it is that way at Road Atlanta due to a local church. Sunday anyway would be the Quest for Speed show. Track days would be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
We can not nix our group with teh HHI group Our insurance would not work for this because of the types of cars they run and the type racing. Also Our drivers wanx the MAX track time.. combining with the HHI group would cut our driving time in 1/2---anyway this wes actually an announcement and not a discussion--the dates are set and can not be changed.
Well, thats just FINE! Now I will have to spend a whole week there again, and it's awful, right in that ratty hood-Hilton Head.
With no Aiken show in 2006 Leatherique will be working with HHI. Will make both dates since Aiken is only 112 miles. Will not overfill the oil this time LOL.
FYI, when we are invited to join another group's event, it's under their insurance since we are invitees and not officially organizing/sponsoring the activity.
hey you can always stay with me for free... Gold Club is not "too" far going the back way into Carolina from Port Wentworth
