ouGA CHaga ouga ouga ouGA CHaga What a great track, thanks to Andy Green and Jon K at Seat Time. Listen F Guys, we have got to do this track. For those who have done it, you know. For those who have not, she is a fine woman you must ride. Great cars, a 250 GTO coupe, and my challenge, a GT3, Twin Tubo, 930, Porsche 90 race car, NSX race, Viper, Cobra, Z06, TT, EVO, lots of BMW's and all kinds of neat cars. I think 52 total, 4 run groups, good instructors, and lots of seat time, all at a resonalbe cost. This track is fast! Jon will give us a deal if we get a group of F cars together to participate. Who's in? Stay in HHI at the Harbour Town Yacht Club or Savannah. Also, what's this I hear about Grove Park El Flattieous Spotageous? We need a post so we can plan. VIR's comming up, Walter Mitty, ALMS, and lots of other neat stuff. The great Jeromy said you need to do the Dragon on Sunday morning, while all the good folks are in church or asleep. The dragon is quiter on Sunday mornings.
i found a thread on another message board of a guy goin to this event with a buddy in his stock wrx STi. "When we arrived I found the lineup was more extensive than I had imagined -- among the attending cars were M3s of multiple generations (E30-E46), a Factory 5 replica, several Porsche 930s including a 1989 RUF 930, a modified 550hp Porsche 996TT, Ferrari 348 Challenge, Viper competition coupe, supercharged NSX, several Lotus Elises, Z06 Corvettes, and a few highly modified Evo 8 and STI cars." http://files.deepabyss.com/images/track/02.25.05/348ch_01.jpg "We came to find out later that over the course of the day Leh set the fastest times of the day in both the wet and the dry (it dried up in the afternoon)...meaning he bested a dozen M3s, a handful of Lotuses, track prepped Factory 5 cars, Z06 Corvettes, a Viper, a 550bhp Porsche, and a supercharged NSX amongst others -- in a nearly stock Japanese 4-door sport sedan. How? Not sure, really. I can say that (although he is a very consistent and reliable driver), it was very hurried and anxious driving. I believe this is where the STI's comparatively short wheelbase and inherent twitchiness came into play. THis and everyone else being novice to moderate in skill level were probably the answers, but regardless of what the conditions were...beating track prepped Ferraris and Vipers in a nearly stock Subaru is something to be proud of!"
Maybe 4 wheel drive, youthrful abandond and quick reflexes, lack of self preservation and talent comes into play. Novice dosent even begin to describe my inablility....Let's face it, I can't drive or spell, but damn, what fun! Some of those cars were fast, expecially the 550 hp twin turbo down the straights. Today, it appeared the NSX was checking out, but the 87 former Neil Bonnet NASCAR road course car sounded the best to me, except when he blew up the rear end when he passed the tower on the main straight. I promise, if people want to say they beat the best sounding Ferrari around, have them invite me to track days for free. I will gladly show and then they can pass me! I was comming through Charleston today, and passed a red GT3 that was getting a ticket. Well, around the 95 exit, he passed me like I was sitting still. How many of these are they importing to the us anyway. Awesome car.
quite alot i think. the price cant be that big a factor since they cost a good chunk less than a regular turbo. also, do you happen to have any highres images of your 348?
he didnt post any of his friends times. but here are some more of the pictures he took: ferrari 250gt http://img163.exs.cx/img163/3366/250granturismo0je.jpg 550hp porsche turbo with matching cayenne turbo http://img163.exs.cx/img163/8601/996tt015bj.jpg http://img163.exs.cx/img163/2417/996tt033vt.jpg ruf-tuned porsche 930 that could supposedly do a 2 or so inch wheelstand when he got on it from a dig: http://img163.exs.cx/img163/9780/ruf9306qk.jpg the friend's sti http://img163.exs.cx/img163/4454/sti6qy.jpg
I remember the guy with the 996TT. Didn't like to get out of the way when I was up his tailpipe in a NA 944 a few weeks ago. Must have been a pride thing. Sounds like the guy in the STi knew how to use his equipment and the other guys didn't.
Hey folks, I took the pictures and wrote everything that "IROC_DIS" quoted me as saying, although I'm not sure who he is. If you have any questions feel free For the ones which have already been asked about the owner and driver of the STI, although he is a young guy he is a very gifted driver -- he competed in Rolex a few weeks ago and came in a bit better than mid-pack. He knows the abilities and limits of his car very well. David, It was a pleasure to meet you! Check out the Louisiana section threads for info about the movie as it becomes available. I am sorry I could not take you up on a ride in the 348CH before I had to leave -- I wish I had driven myself Perhaps next time...
I was just corrected by my friend who read this. He took 6th in class at Daytona (of 31 cars) and 15th overall (of 62 cars). http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=626
Leh Keen, I know him and his family. He is from Dublin GA and has quickly developed into and awesome driver. No wonder no one could keep up with him. Of course the "550hp", yeah right 996TT should still have walked away from everyone. From what I saw last time I was at Roebling that car seems to be bonestock unless the guy's cellphone fell under the gaspedal and he didn't know it. Karl
Haha!!! Karl, Do you remember meeting me at Roebling a few months back? You showed me the ins and outs of your Diablo and we briefly discussed your beast of an Excursion! As for the Porsche, Leh and I were walking back to the STI and passed the guy. I casually asked him if it was an X50 car, and he said, "nope, better!" I said, "oh yeah?" He then went on to say it has some airbox mod, exhaust, and a chip. I am not an expert on 996TT modifications so I didn't know whether to be skeptical, but I know it is possible to produce serious power in turbo cars with little modification so I figured it was probably a realistic claim. The car was DEFINITELY not stock. The exhaust tips (although they looked stock) were protruding from the bumper and the one time I heard the car moving down the straightaway it was loooooooooooudd! Much louder than a stock 996TT. So...there was definitely something going on. He also had the Porsche Recaros and a harness bar+harness setup. He had the goofy option for a CF steering wheel as well.
A few weeks ago I was there instructing for the Porsche club. I was in my 944 S2. Only 200hp but upgraded suspension. I was all over the guy on every part of the track and he never waived me by (as slower cars are supposed to do). As we came out of 9 he'd put the hammer down and leave me, not by as much as I thought he would but nevertheless. By the time we reached turn 3 the whole game started all over again. Lap after lap. I guess his ego was wider than his rear fenders. He definitely wasn't as humble when admitting to his driving skills as JDavid. JDavid, even with limited track experience I think has more fun than any of us. We should all look at the way he does. It's all about having a good time without letting our egos get in the way. But I guess we've all been guilty of that from time to time.
944 S2 must be a SWEET ride! I'd love to see photos, it was (at one point) my absolute favorite! As for Mr. 550hp, who knows -- maybe he poked holes in the exhaust box ...you have to admit his "turbo trailing turbo" setup is pretty cute though!
Guess what Karl's new toy is?! A ultima (GTR)? I saw it one day last week with no motor, however, that may have changed. That is the car I wanted and still would love to have. I like it much more than the Noble, Noble's newest creation. It looks very exotic, and is very quick, EVO ran an article on it a year or so ago. That's the car you will want to see on the track.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=98064&item=4531226239&rd=1 Here is a link to ebay race car section. If this works, it is a Ultima GTR Porsche powered car that looks awesome. Check it out.
JDavid: Anytime you want to go to Roebling let me know. I love the track and have driven in a couple of HPDE's there in both wet and dry conditions. What a blast. Sounds like everyone had fun, sorry I missed it.
i believe the ultima GTR took the world record from the noble m12 gto for the fastest 0-100-0. i had a video of it somewhere, its pretty incredible edit// forgot to mention, i keep trying to PM you richard but its saying your inbox is too full?
Actually it tok the worldrecord title from the famous Mclaren F1. 0-100-0 in 10.3 sec. I am trying to get the car together for this year's One Lap of America. The car weighs 2200 lbs. and will have 650 hp. It should do alot better than the 2 Lambos I have run in the past. And guess what. Roebling Road will be one of the stops during the event. I can't wait for that one. I have had the Diablo around there in 1min. 13sec./lap on slicks. The One lap is run on street tires which will cost about 5 sec. a lap but I am thinking 1 min 15sec. or so should be possible on street rubber with the Ultima. Anyone interested in having their name on the car. The event will have national TV coverage aside from all the magazines that will follow it. Karl
BTW, the '91 944 S2 is For Sale. It's fastest lap around Roebling on slicks is 1min 19.5 sec. My street Diablo did 1min 26sec. Incredible for a little 4banger. I am selling the car very reasonably. I don't want to clutter the forum with details. If anyone wants more info, please email me at [email protected] Thanks
can you tell us any of the other specs? the ebay auction jdavid posted had it coming with an N/A porsche 3.6 liter, but if you go onto their website it looks like it comes with an N/A chevy 377ci with 640hp
You can get the Kit for the Ultima GTR for around 65,000. Then you have to buy a Porsche G50 backend and a 5.7L Chevy Supercharger and put it all together. The total of the price of the car when its all put together is around 100k. The car is how you want to make it since it is a kit. One of the former F-chatters from the East Tenn area (I think) that went with us a while back for a Tail of the Dragon run owns an Ultima GTR. My mind is blank on his name but he was talking about how fast it was. So does Leh Keen work for GSC Motorsports in Charleston SC ??? . I know I went with my own Car group (Honda Tech) where we was going to GSC Motorsports have a car meet, dyno thing. They had to cancel of course the meet since they where headed to Daytona to work with Cory and the gang on the GT3 for the race. We ended up going to some other shop in North Charleston for the car meet and all. I think I have met Leh once before at a Supra Meet in Atlanta GA not too long ago. If im not mistaken he owns a Black Supra ???
Leh works at GSC. He used to own a very dark blue Supra with gunmetal Volk GT7 wheels. He sold it for the Subaru.
What is GSC Motorsport. I have had my own shop in Charleston for over 15 years and have never heard of them. Besides, Leh resides in Dublin, GA. As far as the Ultima is concerned, the one on ebay is a specially built one off Porsche powered one. The guy who built it, like myself is an ex IMSA mechanic and has done a superb job in developing this car. Ultima in GB doesn't like the idea too much (since they didn't do it). The Ultimas can be bought as a roller for about 100k plus customs, etc. The way the dollar is going down hill more by the minute they are probably getting more and more too. My car will be powered by a 406ci small block putting out 650 hp. That gives it 3.4lbs/hp. The Daytona prototypes that run in Grand Am weigh 4lbs/hp. I think the car could kick some ass if I can learn how to use it before the event.
