Rolex - ladies Date service

Hey Guys, my wife needs to have her gold/SS Date serviced. She was quoted $750 from a local watch shop, not authorized Rolex dealer. Does this price seem reasonable?

"No it’s not, that’s what Rolex charges.
I generally charge $400 with shipping included. I never understand how these shops charge the same as Rolex (exception being for vintage collector’s watches)."

"Why would you not send to RSC for service?"

I've had great experiences using independents, and the one's I've used, do utilize Rolex parts. Heck, just used a local MB independent to do the service B on my S65 for 1/2 the price of the local MB store

A bit of an update since I posted this question. My wife called the local Rolex dealer and they are no longer a RSC, said she'd have to take into the city. She went back to the local independent that quoted $750. He's been in business here locally for 25 years and high marks on the google. He explained the work he'll do and that he only utilizes genuine parts and has a coupon for $100 off for her.
