So...for all you Rolex lovers out there, if you had a chance to pick up a Milgauss, black face with green crystal or a SS Daytona with black face, both at MSRP, what would you guys pick up? If the SS Daytona was white face I would pick it up in a second but black face...

Just curious what all you guys are thinking.

Well the Millgaus is ok BUT!!! it will not hold it's value that well as the Daytona plus if the daytona you can get is with new style gmt clasp it's an good deal!

Right now, both watches are experiencing price drops, MSRP, and even below have been reported for both.

Buy which you like. I love the Milgauss LV but I would probably take the Daytona. Then again, for that money I probably would not buy either and look at a Glashutte Original or other brand.

    No real bad choice here.

    Best,

It is the old clasp...I guess clearing out the old models.

See, I've wanted a white face daytona for so long...struck a place in my memory when I the first time I saw one in person was the first time I met Steve Millen. I haven't seen price drops from dealers yet...just on the secondary market (TZ, eBay, etc...) in my mind the smart thing to do is wait just a few months longer to see what happens but the instant gratification part of me is just stronger! ;)

Haha, if you want it I'll pick it up for you!

Definitely the Daytona. I love its looks, and its the closest thing to a "complicated watch" that Rolex makes.

The only reason I'd consider the Milgauss is I've never owned one. But in overall appearance its not really any more exciting than a Datejust or Explorer 1.

    Best regards,
    Dino

I already have one...will get more in the future too...but right now just had the opportunity come up to pick up a Daytona. I'm leaning away from the Milgauss because really the Daytona has always been what I wanted. I always wanted a Sub and a Daytona. Really the only thing stopping me is that it's black face instead of white and I really don't know why that's such a huge difference to me.

My Panerai is already white faced.

I have owned white dial Daytonas in the past, and the main advantage is they are easier to read the time at a glance. But I've always prefered the look of the black dial and I eventually traded my white dials toward other watches. In the end I kept only the black dials. Try on the white gold with white dial and see if you really prefer it to a black dial Daytona. Then make your choice.
    Best regards,
    Dino

I just traded my Yacht-Master for the Milgauss (black but no green). I like the Daytona but too big and busy for me, IMO (why I traded the Yachty). My lone vote is the Milgauss. Enjoy either.

MSRP on a Milgauss GV isn't really a good deal. MSRP on the new clasp style Daytona is probably an OK deal. On the old clasp Daytona, you should be able to do better. There has been quite a bit of drop in value for both watches over the past 6 months.

I passed on the Milgauss...still not a bad looking watch especially with the green glass. The black Daytona was sold at list to someone else at the shop. So what is the going rate for a new Daytona if not MSRP? I've noticed they're not selling on eBay.

I love the Milgauss GV. Just not for full MSRP since many ADs are discounting them. IMHO, MRSP is a fine price for a new Daytona. I would expect some sort of discount for a NOS (old style clasp) Daytona. I've noticed lots of NIB Daytonas on the gray/secondary market that cannot sell for mid-$9Ks.

Oh my God, the Daytona. I just bought a white faced, never even thought twice. Best resale of any Roles, and the most beautiful and desirable.

I understand. I started with a black Sub, now the white Daytona. Best of both worlds.

Daytona 165200 in black is the best bet. In Hk, one can pick up a new one, with full warranty for HK$ 78k, a white face for $ 73k. while the Milgaus is selling at under $ 50k.
Used Daytona, SS, retail for up to $ 95K a few months back but recent market conditions changed everything. MSRP, if avaliable for 165200, white/black face under HK $ 70k.
Panerai, great watch but ETA movement while the older Daytona 16520 is Zenith movement.
Best bet, a PP SS Aquanut or Natulis.

Haha, that's exactly what I would have if I can make this deal with the Daytona go through.

My Sub actually came from there. I was back for my grandfather's funeral back in 2003 and picked up my Sub. I might have to fly back or have my cousin pick up a Daytona for me!

I have a black faced Daytona, love it. I wear it quite a bit too, not a garage queen. Love the way it looks, not to ostentatious. Great thing is that a lot of people don't know what it is at first glance. That would be my choice.
