I bought a Rolex SS/Gold Submariner Oyster Perpetual Datejust from A.H. Risse in St. Thomas in Feb. 2007 while on a cruise. A few months ago the date stopped working. I have not abused the watch in any way. I believe the warranty is 2 years so I need to get it repaired before Feb. 2009. I have the box, booklet, serial number paperwork, etc. I'm kind of pissed about it since I spent that much on my first nice watch and its broken in less than 2 years. I came from an $85 Invicta that lasted 6 years.

Does anyone know how long a Rolex repair takes and how I go about this?

Sorry to hear the watch stopped. Rolex's are quite robust, however, I do have a question for you regarding your manual advancement of the quickset date.

When you need to manually change dates (ie during a 30 day month) what time of day do you usually advance the quickset?

    Thanks,
    dsd

I have owned several Rolex watches over the years and I've only ever had a problem with one watch which was a very early production 116520 SS Daytona with Rolex movement. They fixed it reasonably quickly under the warranty and I did not have any further problems with that watch. I've never experienced any problems with the date function on my Subs, GMTs, or Explorer 2, so again hopefully once your watch is repaired it will be good ownership experience. Remember other expensive products can occasionally have a defect or problem, be it a nice car, a camera, a watch, etc. Contact Rolex for shipping instructions or if you will be in NYC drop it off at their service center on 5th Ave. Make sure you get around to doing this before the warranty expires. Standard repair time for them tends to range from 6-12 weeks depending on how many watches are in for service at any given time.

    Best regards,
    Dino

3 weeks turn-round once they get the authorization from you. PM me your number and I'll fax you a complete form with instructions on how to send it in. Its easy. Its quick. On the form they want to know when you bought it. Send in your receipt and warranty info and they may fix it for free.
