How many of you out there are coaster freaks like me? I went to Kings Island in Ohio today and remembered why the Beast is called the Beast.
Love 'em! The best I have been on is the Goliath at Six Flags in Valencia. Over 80 mph at the bottom of the first drop.
!!!!!! GOD I LOVE the Vortex!! Great ride at Kings Island http://www.coastergallery.com/2000/pki54.html
I like them, but haven't been on many since I don't travel to theme parks outside my area much. Busch Gardens, Tampa - Kumba, Montu, Python (now closed), Scorpion Universal Studios Islands of Adventue - Hulk, Dueling Dragons Disney World - Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain Las Vegas - NY NY Hotel's roller coaster, Stratosphere roller coaster, Desperado roller coaster (just outside LV) Santa Cruz, CA - some wooden coaster I've been on a few more, but can't remember where. I think some coaster in Paris at a theme park there.
I dislike roller coasters, and my family is in amusement park design and construction. The last time I was at Six Flags in NJ, I went on Nitro and blacked out.
How can you ever get bored of the rush of the first drop? I never could. I will be in LA next weekend staying with my cousin who lives about 5 blocks from Six Flags. I think I'll have to make a detour..........
I'll watch thank you How is the coaster at NYNY? I was there for 3 weeks awhile back and my suite was by the rollercoaster, I was up high enough to where it did'nt bug me. I actually like that hotel because it is more laid back than the more hip places to stay.
I havent been on many coasters, because there really arent that many really good amusment parks around Calgary. Eventually, I want to try Tatsu, ever since I saw it on "extreme engineering" on Discovery Channel I have wanted to ride it.
It's pretty fun because it goes through the building and stuff. How many floors is the highest building? Btw, the roller coaster outside Las Vegas, specifically at Buffalo Bill's, was pretty damn scary the first time I rode it (I was 11 at the time, give me a break ). I didn't have any problems with coasters in the past or after then, but this one was wild. The drop is over 200 feet, which is cool, but not when you only have (literally) a seat belt holding you in. If you want, you can undo it, unlike at real parks where they have those locked in restraints you can't get out of. When it started the drop, I was holding onto the sides of the coaster (there was no handrail in front) thinking the pos seat belt could come off... Edit: More info on the coaster including pic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desperado_(roller_coaster)
I am not sure how high the hotel is but we were in Empire tower the first week in the perfect suite but were moved to the Willowick Suite for the last 2 weeks...Willowick has its own private elevator and is bigger/more secure but I liked the other suite much better. The bed was more comfortable and it was the perfect size for me and my girl...I should go back next month and maybe I will ride it, everyday I said we would but we would sleep half the day then be out again all night.
I grew up with a season pass to King's Island, back when it was still Hanna-Barbara owned rather than Paramount. I LOVE The Beast. Traditional wood, but what a great experience through the rolling hills of Ohio, and it's LONG, something like 3 and a half minutes, so I always feel like I get my money's worth from standing in line. Love The Vortex too. KI was the best place to pick up chicks as a kid. Parents drop you off for the day, you're surrounded by chicks from other schools, counties, even states. Lots of liplocking and over-the-clothes action in Phantom Theater AND you can get the BEST food! Skyline, LaRosa's pizza, funnel cakes, Potato Works, etc. I think they even have a Montgomery Inn now. (please don't get upset at me calling them 'chicks'; it's all we really wanted as youngsters) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree with the chicks thing! And the Beast should be renamed, it should be called the God. It is the best wooden coaster in the world! It is 3:40 long. We only had to wait in line 20 minutes for the Beast, and around 35 for the Vortex because it broke down. Im trying to go to KI again or another park.
Dorney Park in PA has a couple good ones, one of them you start off doing a very very slow corkscrew, AMAZING. I need to get to Cedar Point in Ohio, the coasters there are supposed to be amazing.
Does it by chance drop into a hole in the ground? They have one like that at Alton Towers in England. The only coaster that tore an expletive from me as we went over the edge. Six Flags in Atlanta has a good selection of coasters if you're ever in the area. For Superman, wait for the front row. amazing.
The Beast looks pretty cool. I loved the mention of Skyline, too. My best friend growing up was from Cincinnati, and his grandparents always brought a ton of it with them when they visited. I loved it!
Not initially the first drop is just a huge fall, then later on in the ride you experience a similar, smaller drop into the ground.
i could go to Kings Island just for the beast...! We have a skyline where i live in Indiana. So that is just another thing about Kiings Island that is cool. As for LaRosas we dont have That is a treat there. Although we do have a gallon of the sauce they use. Its great
Not to be a killjoy, but I've always wondered : how safe are the things. I mean, really. How well are they engineered, are there special regulations on testing their structural integrity, how often is that done, etc. I realise there's no special answer, what I'd like to know is the typical setup for a responsible organisation (like Disneyland). I love roller coasters, but I always feel a little anxious when I go on them - it has to do with the reason that I'm almost 300 lbs. Do they have a clearly defined weight limit, or are they just so overengineered that it doesn't matter?
