Do any of you have experience rolling the front fenders of a 360 WITHOUT cracking the paint?

I am thinking about rolling the fenders to fit bigger wheels but I am not real happy about having the front fenders crack the paint during the attempt.

Any pics and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

P.S. I know the stradale has the fenders rolled at the facotry and then painted but I will need the same clearance.

P.S.S. I did a search and see that only 1 person had the inside fender lip cut and then coated with black under coating. Sounds like a better idea to not crack the paint has anyone done this and do you have pics?

I have never done it, but I believe my friend Tony had it done to his car. I think my friend Josh did the work. I seem to remember Tony said something about Josh heated up the paint with a hair dryer and/or heat gun, then used a baseball bat to roll the fender. Apparently heating the paint helps to keep it from cracking.

    Maybe Tony can chime in.

Had mine done when I installed the 19" Stradale wheels. Body shop owner did it by hand and no paint was needed. Before I had them rolled my 18" stock wheels would rub on bumps bending the bottom of the fender well. No issues now.

Below are some pics, the one in the garage and coming off the Ferrari of Washington truck is before and the others are after it was done.

Last weekend we rolled the fenders of some e46 M3s. We had a proper fender roller and a heatgun. No damage was done to the paint of any vehicle and it was actually quite an easy process. Needs to be done with non-aggressively of course, but the results were fabulous.

I had mine done at a body shop after the inside lip was caught on the new 19's. They were carefully trimmed, hand rolled, and a bit of black tough-up undercoat added to the inner raw edge to finish. Looks great and no rubbing even on bumps & hard turns. a heat gun was only mildly used to prevent damage to the 3M clear bra fender shield stuff.

Best advice for a relatively certain outcome is a seasoned pro in a body shop who is familiar with aluminum and tender with the paint.

rolled mine myself with 2 hammers. Used one hammer handle against the metal and tapped the handle with the other hammer. Paint did crack on the inside. I drive mine and this small thing does not phase me. I will own the car for 2-4 years and then get something different. Will tell the next owner when selling.

    Thanks a ton everyone -

It appears patience-heat-and light massage will prevent the cracking.

I will post the results when done.

    lawdog, i did it, TWICE.

1st, i brought it to a porsche tuner, he messed the whole thing up, didn't have the right tools.

2nd, i brought it to a factory authorized collision center here in so. florida, rolled it like a charm.

spend the money, take it to a reputable shop that works with aluminum.

I did them with eclipse285 using an old Louisville Slugger. Seriously. We were a wee bit drunk at the time, but it worked great!

  12. I had mine done by Maranello Racing Cars, without heating and the paint did not even crack. I guess this has to be done by someone who really knows the car and the technique.

I was just curious about this. I have a 360 with 19" 430 wheels and I have not had any rubbing problems. I don't plan on lowering my car, so I am not sure whether this is necessary. Any opinions? Thanks.

Heat gun and a carfull touch will help avoid paint cracking. Best way i have found now, is to trim the fenders with a small sanding wheel. The fenders are very soft, you can trim very easily and then just touch up the bare surface area. Works like a charm, no paint cracking and fender holds its original line. (no waves from an uneven roll)

Done with the proper fender rolling equipment there will be no damage to the paint and the fender will be rolled smooth and even, just take it to a shop that knows what they are doing. preferably a shop that sells lots of aggressive wheel fitments. They will know what they are doing then.

I was going to buy Novitec Rosso 19-20" wheels and they told me that rolling the fenders was a must to install this wheels so I passed.
My shop has the right tool, heat gun etc but it is not a 100% garantie so I finish buying some 19" wheels instead..
