I'm moving to the San Antonio area and will be rolling into town Saturday evening. Anybody live in the area that would be interested in meeting up on Sunday or Monday?

Thanks for the offer but I won't be able to make it up to the Dallas area tomorrow. My new job has me in San Antonio for the next year or so and will definitely be heading up your way on the weekends. I will give you a call later this week.

Our Poker Run is Saturday, that's a good time. Otherwise check our section or www.fcadfw.com now and then to see the next good events. The Exotic Car Nights is a fun one too.

Howdy Mark, welcome to Tejas! Now that you're here, I'll take back everything that I said about you. :)

Seriously, what are you going to be doing in SA? Also next weekend, the Houston FCA is going to have a breakfast at a little place called Round Top. Let me if you can make it and I'll send you the info. You don't need a Ferrari to come.

Thanks for the offers guys. I just finished AF officer school and will be reporting in at Randolph tomorrow. I'm not sure what my schedule will be like but I suspect I may be busy this first weekend setting up my apartment/dorm.

    Hi Mark:
Welcome to San Antonio. Of all the places I've been assigned my family has enjoyed living here the best.

FYI - I work just right down the road from you at Ft Sam Houston. PM me if you want to get together or if I can be of any help in your transition. Always happy to welcome a fellow officer.

Warm up the Riverwalk for me - I report in at Lackland on 18 June. I will be moving my office to Dick's on the Riverwalk...

Anyone know a small place with a garage in Alamo Heights? A built in lift would be good...

No internet access the last few days. I'm thinking about getting a Sprint or Verizon wireless internet card. Anybody have experience?

Russ: Let me know if you need help in your transition to San Antonio. As for a rental house in Alamo Heights, I'll keep my ear to the ground. If you need a source for rentals there are some reputable agents in that area that I can suggest. Drop me a line when you get to town and we'll get together.

    Hooah!

    Many thanks!
I get into town 16 June and CoC is Friday 18 June. Will probably drive the truck (I was told one was required for Texas citizenship) and ship the bambino.

By the way, since I'm coming out of the Joint NDU, here in DC it's pronounced J-Hooah... :)

Sprint PCS wireless internet service is clearly better than any form of dial-up; but clearly not as good as DSL. Probably comparable to my days of ISDN use (when I rarely got 128K; typically more like 64K).

HOWEVER, I do not use it regularly... so consider my experience with it to be "limited".

I talked to Mark on the phone last night. He wanted to use the wireless card as his main internet connection. I don't recommend that. As he found out, they only have a 300 MB max plan per month vs. the unlimited when I signed up a year ago. Although it has advertised 120k speeds, it doesn't seem that fast as there's other bottle necks, like the signal coming and going. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I love that I can be at TWS or MSR or fishing in Kansas and still hit the internet if I want. The most frustrating thing is the Sprint stores and marketing will tell you all day long that the wireless card will work anywhere you can get a Sprint PCS signal. That's just plain wrong and they don't even know better. I've noticed over the past year I can get the connection more places, but usually just in metro areas. Along all the interstates where you can get a strong PCS signal, it's really hard to get a wireless connection. Even if you do flying along at 80mph, then you have problems as it doesn't hand off very well.

Anyway, I like it OK, I just scaled my plan back from unlimited to 20 Mb because my largest month only used 11 Mb.

Got hooked up with Roadrunner cable internet today and it seems to be working really well.

I don't have to go far to take jet pics.... This one is parked on a popsicle stick just across the street from my building. :)

Mark - It was good meeting you last Sunday. Hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we enjoyed having you. Keep in touch & let me know what car you decide to get. We'll have to fire up the grill again when Russ gets into town.

Will be flying into San Antonio 16 June for an 18 June Change of Command at Lackland.
Have contacted some shippers and will probably ship the Mondial in July August. Probably will ship to the dealer and pick it up there if they're willing. Have new timing belts, new water pump, new tires, new muffler and fresh charge of A/C refrigerant. Bring it on.

Realtors are offering me gated community Townhomes around the Medical Center - is that good? Close to Lackland?

    Hope to meet everyone soon.

the medical center area is nicer than anything by lackland, lackland is not in the best side of town, but the medical center is where it gets nice, Are you a pilot, I am taking lessons right now, and lackland traffic is always getting in my way. J/J. good luck if you need anything else just ask.
