Apparently they're very good off road? They ride better than a BMW X5 at any rate.

There was a really good review of the Phantom in the UK magazine Autocar, they drove it on and off road over 2000 miles in Namibia and had nothing but praise for it.

It just goes to show the depth of ability that these cars have which most owners will never have to use, but is nevertheless part of the design ethos.

Thanks Armen. I'll take that very seriously from a person with a collection as great as yours. Do you have a picture of your phantom?

Nice collection Silius of the cars you already have. What do you do (if I may ask)? I can't comment on the Rolls-Royce, but they look lovely with that "stately" look the brand is known for. Isn't Rolls-Royce going to launch a convertible?

I wouldn't really like a phantom convertible. I'm trying to get into the hotel business now. I'm in the process of moving right now, I'm moving stuff to my house tomorow. So it's kind of unorganized right now.

As a major of hotel and restaurant management major in college, I'm interested to ask, are you trying to buy a hotel, or another part of the industry (reservations, marketing, supplier, ect).

I actually think the convertible is going to a be 2-door. Also, Rolls-Royce is planning to roll out a "cheaper" model: http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/16/Autos/funonwheels/small_rolls-royce/

    Report: Rolls-Royce plans 'cheaper' car
New smaller car would cost $40,000 less than the current Phantom.
    August 16, 2005: 1:37 PM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - BMW, parent company of Rolls-Royce, is planning to release a smaller, less expensive Rolls than the company's current Phantom sedan, according to a report on Edmunds.com's Inside Line Website.

The sticker price of the Phantom, which is currently RollsRoyce's only car, starts at about $340,000.

The new car would sell for about $300,000, according to the report, which quoted from an interview with BMW development chief Burkhard Goeschel. The interview was published in the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom, introduced in 2003, has failed to meet expected sales volumes, according to the report.

The most successful segment of the ultra-luxury car market has been vehicles priced over $150,000 but less than $300,000, according to Inside Line. Bentley, Rolls-Royce's former sister-company and now a subsidiary of Volkswagen, has seen success in that arena with its Bentley Continental GT costing about $156,000.

Plans for the car are still preliminary and it is not expected to be released until about 2010, according to the report.

From a young student who works around Mercedes, Porsches, and the odd exotic....the RR Phantom is massive. Bigger than a Maybach, and much better looking, in my opinion. It rides nice. The floor carpet is incredible. It feels like its a couple inches thick.

An amazing car, to say the least.

Oh yea....and you have a PM.

Well I plan on owning a hotel. I know it will take a while but I'm trying to find a place where I can setup a small motel, see how that works out, than start opening a couple more motels, and then after enough experience and money, maybe a hotel.

I dont understand how a car 40k cheaper at 300k makes any difference? a ~13% price difference is not enough to off-set much.

Either the pricing is wrong, or BMW is going to suffer a silly problem (unless the car is radically different in design from the phantom offering a choice in that sense - but don't bet on it).

They should take a cue from Bentley with the green vs red label cars. What a disaster that was.

Where in CA are you? I've got a ton of hotel experience- we should get together to compare our (imaginary) cars sometime. I'm test driving an original D-type Jag as I type this!

Wow. I thought the cars you had in your profile were it.

If you don't mind, how many/what are the cars you own?

He also has a 456, 288 GTO and I think he just got a new F430.
He said he drives a compact truck as his daily driver.

    The F40 isn't his.

    Armen is the man!
