I've got a Roma Spider on the way (UK) which will be my first ferrari / nice car. Apologies if my questions are a little newbie here. I'm moving to an apartment before the car arrives where I'm unsure if I will have plug ports in the parking space in the basement for the trickle charger. My thoughts were to get a portable power thing like you use when going camping and get it plugged into that whenever possible - better than nothing if I'm not using it for several days in a row right? For those that are in a similiar situation, do you use a similiar technique? Am I being stupid? How many days do you Roma users find is okay to leave between drives if needed? Thanks in advance
Great to hear of the new delivery... I guess the question is how often will you use the car? I have a Cali T and use it about three times a week during the summer for trips over 20/30 mins and this keeps the battery in condition. In the winter its trickle charged as I use the car a lot less If you are using an external battery pack to condition the car battery it will need to be quite big. If the trickle charger uses 10-20 watts this is 1 to 2 amps per hour, a camping or leisure battery might typically be 100 - 150amp but think you can only use about 50% of the available change, not an expert on this. I hope this helps
Thanks very much! Typically 1-2x a week I think for maybe 20min a time is my average at the moment. I think if I can get to your level of use then I could stave off the need for portable power. Appreciate your help
The owner manual gives explicit time limits fot car parked without battery maintenace. Additionally, for cars driven only short distances, e.g. 20 miles per week, the onboard charging system may not have enough time to get battery up to snuff. My 2016 Cali T is put on battery maintainer within 24 hours after any drive, no problems with that practice in my experience.
I didn't know that - I don't have access to the manual yet in the MyFerrari app. I'll be sure to look up that section when I get it, thanks :
20 minutes at a time?. Please don't be the resale Ferrari owner who believes that saving his car to not loose money is your goal. Don't know your situation or if your only vehicle but enjoy it not make it a typical garage queen. 20 minutes IMO does it more harm than any possible good. We drove all ours almost daily. Never cared about pump price, maintenance cost, mileage, or MPG.... we just had/have the greatest experience every time we enjoy our special vehicles as others seeing you will as well. Find time for a couple hours. But, congrats on the car. You're sure to be thrilled.
Nah my goal would never be to worry about the resale value - I like to keep them all forever. I'd ideally use it everyday but because I live in London and work in/around central a lot I just tend to use the tube most of the time. Occassionally I'll spend a week or so abroad for work too which would be annoying as far as the battery is concerned. Luckily I just found out a couple days ago that the basement parking has plug points so I can just leave it plugged in no probs if I'm away!
