Although my original plan was to go to the SVRA event at Road Atlanta, I decided not to, in part because I had been there just 3 weeks before, and in part because the entry list had no Ferraris! Besides, I had been to the first Air & Car Show last year, when it was held at McCollum Field in Kennesaw, and I had enjoyed it. It was a nice, if foggy, ride up to Rome in light Saturday morning traffic.

The turnout of cars was hurt some by the preceding night's rain and the gloomy skies, but there were still about 130 cars present. When is the last time you saw a Henry J? Or an original Lincoln Continental? Nice stuff.

This set begins with a wild custom job, a Chrysler 300 which was decapitated and turned into a convertible! And it's followed by yet another 1940 Lincoln, this time a Zephyr sedan! I never thought I'd see two beautiful '40 Lincolns at a show like this one.

Also, a Richard Petty signature edition Grand Prix in a familiar shade of blue, a pretty Karmann Ghia (finally, another European), an excellent '71 Torino (and note the Gatorrari alongside it), and even a '59 Edsel.

This set includes a truly rare bird, namely the ultimate in NASCAR specials, a '70 Plymouth SuperBird. Bet you can't get one for that price now!

But it also has one of my favorites, a three-wheeled Morgan Super Sport, and one of its more familiar four-wheeled brethren.

Also a very nice Model A, and next to it a rather newer Ford, an early-60s Fairlane.

Remember that this was a combined air and car show; I did take photos of some of the aircraft as well. They will appear on the sister website AviatorChat.com after I am done with these.

I did include a couple of the military vehicles that were on the airshow side: a 1941 Willys Jeep, and a National Guard Humvee painted gaudily as a recruiting tool.

Also a British invasion of an MGB and a couple of Sunbeams. And what was probably the first "modern" SUV (as opposed to old Suburbans), the International Scout.

Nice write-up and great pics! That Morgan is pretty interesting; imagine driving that through downtown draffic.

    But, Wade, there's more! :D

This set opens with the Gatorrari next to a hulking Avalanche that was so tall the owner brought a stepstool so that people could check out his (nicely-detailed) engine! These two vehicles truly represented the "high" and "low" in the entries. The owner said it was a daily driver, but lamented its thirst--9 miles per gallon. That's enough to make a 328 seem thrifty.....

Also a rather larger USMC truck, a "Mini Lee", a Model T, and the other Italian exotic there, a familiar Pantera. Also a TR6, a '70 Barracuda, and an early Buick Riviera with hidden headlights.

By now the fog was finally burning off, leading to a nice afternoon (and more difficult photography!)

Note the alcohol Funny Car behind the Viper in the first photo. Other display vehicles included an old John Deere tractor and a miniature monster truck (SmallFoot?). Also a passionate purple Demon and a bugeye Sprite in racing trim.

Man, I love that Sprite! It looks too cute to drive, if there is such a thing.

I need to keep on eye on the schedule for next year's event.
