    Hi everyone,

My oldest daughter is taking her second semester Junior year in Rome. My wife and I plan to visit in April.

I'm looking at the Euro and thinking there must be some "jewel in the rough" local knowledge hotel that can be less than 350 euro's per night.

Need a suggestion for a high value, clean, lower cost hotel somewhere in Rome proper.

    Thanks,

    Christian,

I recently stayed in a beautiful small hotel in Rome. Just next to the Spanish steps. It belongs to one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World! Absolutely a wonderful hotel.

You can find it at www.slh.com
The hotel is called "The Inn at the Spanish steps" on the Via Dei Condotti 85

The last place I stayed I think was called Hotel Imperial. Right on Via Venento, two blocks down the street from the US embassy and three down the hill from Harry's Bar. 40 minute walk to the vatican, 20 minutes to the forum. I can dig up a phone number for you tomorrow. Was something like 200 euros a night. Small, but cozy. Not a tourist trap.

Last time I stayed at one of the best hotels in the world in Rome - the Hotel de la Russie near Piazza del Popolo, right in the heart of the historical city. It is a beautiful ancient villa with landscaped gardens and a "six stars" service. The rooms are huge, with tall, sunny windows overlooking the garden and the hill just behind.

It normally costs 1,200 Euros per night, but on www.freehotelsearch.com I once found an amazing offer at 360 Euros per night (off peak-season).

Try it, you may be lucky. This is a TOP world-class hotel, I 100% recommend it.

Whoops, I screwed up. I went through my old Amex files, I ate dinner at the Hotel Imperiale one night, but I stayed at the Hotel Alexandra, which is next door.

    Neat place.
