I'm going to Rome in a couple of weeks (Oct 1-8). Any ideas re: Ferrari events there or is there something I should buy as a gift there that I can't buy here?

First never been there but you are not to far from the factory might be a nice drive if you have time. As for a gift I would really love to have a F355B euro version of couse but if not a 308 would work fine. If you happen to see that wallet of yours there I would buy one of those from you. Have fun.

Actually, Rome is not really close to the factory - Venice and Florence are closer. I was there in July.

There isn't a lot to see in Modena unless you are going on a factory tour. You'll need to schedule the tour a couple of months in advance usually through your dealer and they will require proof of ownership before scheduling. I did not see anything of significance that I "had" to have at the Ferrari store. With the exchange rate, you will be paying more than you would be paying here in the U.S.

With globalization of the economy you can purchase almost every material item here in the U.S. that you can get there - that's coming from someone who is always for to adding more items to the closet.

Enjoy Rome for what Rome is famous for (hint, it isn't Ferraris).

There is a Ferrari store at the airport, spend some money there before you get on the flight home.

I'm leaving Sunday for a week in Rome. Besides dead Christians, what is Rome famous for??

I will look for the store in the airport. I'm also interested in cool stuff to get in town. I won't have time to drive (or taxi) far out of town.

    Ron,
I recommend getting with your concierge and arranging a car and driver for a day. They will get you in and out of the big attractions without the hassles, and usually without waiting in the long lines. Some amazing history in Rome, and your driver will tell you a lot of information you won't hear on a tour bus or on your own.

Thanks Phil, I'll check on that. I got a pretty good guide book, so I'm fairly prepared for efficiently looking at stuff. It would be nice to get some suggestions on interesting things you can buy there, but not here. (besides cheap hookers!)

I'll be getting back about the time you leave - I have to go to Germany the following week. If you are still putting your trip together, get Rick Steve's 2006 Rome travel guide. It has really good info on making the most of your trip, restaurants and gelato shops, how not to get pickpocketed, etc.

This time of year in Rome there is usually some kind of collector car show every saturday or sunday. I stumbled across one last year while looking out of the hotel window and saw a parade of old and new Alfas, Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis etc pass by; I nearly fainted when a Maserati 4CL and a 250 LWB drove by! Rushing out of the hotel like a bat outta-hell, I (and others) ran thru the streets of Rome chasing the caravan. They met near Plaza Venicia near the center of Rome. I was amazed at what was there. Funny thing though, none of the cars stood out, they just blended into the scenery. I recommend a web search for car clubs in Rome and see what their meet schedule is.

I've been to Rome a few times and it's the most beautiful city I've ever been to. Here are a few must-sees in my opinion.

    St. Peters
    Sistine Chapel
    The Pantheon
    The Coliseum

The Ferrari Store is located at Via Tomacelli which you can easily walk to from Piazza del Popolo or Piazza di Spagna. Also, check out Fendi's Boutique on your way to the Ferrari Store.

Just get to Piazza del Popolo and walk from there, have fun taking in the city

Initial report from Rome. I havent got in yet. The Italians at the airport are having a strike (which Im told they do fairly regularly). Pretty much shuts the place down. So I am spending a fine rainy day in the Zurich airport waiting for them to get their drunk azzes back to wörk.

Call your hotel, see if they can arrange a car to pick you up rather than risk the cabs going on strike (again!).

I had a great time in Rome. My suggestion... Rent a car if you didn't plan on it already. Driving in Rome is really fun... :) I had a Fiat Punto. I'm sure glad I had a small car. Anyway, enjoy!
