As a lover of all things automotive, in addition to my interest in Ferraris I have also been a drag racing fan all my life. As a kid around 1969-1970,71 my favorite class was the Pro Stocks. The team that was my all time number one was the very successful team of Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin. I have just learned that last week Mr Sox died after a long fight with cancer. During the last couple of years I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times and I have to say he was always very very nice. I collect alot of 1/18 diecast and I have alot of the cars that were driven by this team. Mr Sox has signed most of them and they are a very important part of my car automobila. Thank you Ronnie. My prayers to his family. He will always be #1, RIP.

Oh wow, Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin, they RULED Pro Stock for a few years, didn't they ? Seems like yesterday they were fighting it out with Grumpy Jenkins and Dyno Don Nicholson, I was at Ontario for the Supernationals in 1971, those were awesome times, weren't they ?

If you have broadband, there are some drag racing websites you GOTTA see:

    www.70sfunnycars.com and also

www.wediditforlove.com although I think most of that one is a pay site now.

You get on either one of those, and you will be hooked for weeks.....

Another former athlete died last weekend, former MLB pitcher Steve Howe, the phenom that kept getting into cocaine trouble 20-25 years ago. He rolled his pickup in S. California last Friday.

I raced with Ronnie and Buddy back in the 60's and 70's but sort of lost track into the mid 80's. Ronnie was undoubtedly the best 4-speed stick man ever. Even Hubert Platt could not powershift like Ronnie did.

You are right. He was a very humble man and everyone enjoyed being around him and Buddy. Buddy is actually the person who put that team together after he kept getting beat by Ronnie back in the early 60's driving 409 Chevy's.

Nice epitaph for him at www.nhra.com. Gives a lot of his history and those who did not have the great opportunity to know him will learn a lot about a great racer...........look in their news archives for 4/22/2006 for the article. It is worth the read........

    Sad news.

There's a great write up on Sox and Martin in the Jan/Feb 2006 edition of AUTO Aficionado.
