So my 13 Cali is giving me a warning light that the trunk is open, when it obviously is not. Anyone have any advice on where to start troubleshooting this?

I would try cycling the system, like opening and closing the trunk a few times, then turn off the ignition.

If the warning goes away after this I would just see if it returns. It could just be an electrical issue with the battery because a weak battery WILL often result in spurious error messages or it could be an issue with a sensor(s). If not, then you have to get it serviced.

I just recalled it may be a trunk latch problem.

Unfortunately, it can also be a sign of something more problematic, perhaps to do with what's called "roof free space measurement". I believe it refers to clearance and should be 17 mm. It's part of the "factory kinematics position list". If that measurement is off it can cause damage to the roof. If that happened you would have heard a "pop" when the roof was operating.

So I would check your roof panel for any damage and contact the service garage and ask them for advice.

I mistyped it a trunk warning light not roof...it says the trunk is open when it is clearly closed. The roof works great and nothing really has changed

It's OK but I did understand you correctly. Your car is complaining about the trunk being open while it is clearly closed. This is what happened with my car back in 2014. In my case, my car roof was also dented at the same time.

While I cannot determine if the 2 problems were linked what I can say is that my service garage eventually found out what caused the roof dents but NOT the trunk open warnings. Also, after the problem with the roof was fixed, I no longer experienced spurious trunk open warnings. It's been 5 years hence.

Since the roof dents were caused by an improper alignment of the roof mechanism and the trunk is operated at the same time as the roof mechanism, it would be a good idea to play it safe. OTOH, your problem can as I indicated earlier, also be simply caused by an issue with the trunk latch. I'm just trying to provide you information that might potentially save you a huge repair bill.

I would contact the garage. Here is part of my work order from 2014...

I appreciate the advice, I will check everything out and talk to the dealer. Unfortunately the closest dealer is 4 hours away

Yes, I thought the distance to your dealer might be one of your concerns.

The best thing to do is to make a very thorough check of your roof panel. The dents on my car were quite small and can be easily missed. I only saw them because I wash my own cars. I suspect your roof is fine but since the downsides are severe you should check anyway. You should then call your dealer's service department. It's even better if you have a photo of the warning on your display.

FWIW, if you cycle the opening and closing of the trunk (without operating the roof) it should not involve any risk and you will see if the fault clears or displays again. In which case, you should take a photo of it as well as video your attempt to move the closed trunk; which will obviously not budge, as proof to the service mechanics.

If after all that your dealer says you should bring it in then you would have done all you can. I always take the long country road way to my dealer so I can enjoy the drive. I never drive on the highway unless I have to. I'm not sure where you live but my Canadian location is likely to be colder than all US locations where there is a Ferrari dealer. I have about 3 weeks left of driving season. If it's really that cold where you are then you are close to putting the car away and can wait till next Spring to have the issue looked into, unless it is a warranty issue.
