Button is proving what I have been saying about our current champion all along, ie: put 90% of our F1 drivers in the best car on the grid and they will win and probably win the WDC.

A drivers performance in a poor car is what makes them, and both Button and our current champion snck in a weak car, MS did not.

Button reminds me of Damon Hill, put him on pole and have a good start and nobody will catch him ... but he won't fight through the pack to "take" a race.

That's funny, most journalists noted the improvement of the team, consider the fact that a Ferrari was usually in the top 3 in qually and actually qualified 1-2 taking the front row twice, finished the year with 11 podiums and 1 win ! Wow, what a crap team, not bad for a laughing stock I would say.

Rainer W. Schlegelmilch is or was a photographer, I imagine his book had lots of big pictures, if that's really his quote I would be embarrassed to use it. Here's what British grand prix reporter and current Editor of F1 Racing magazine Alan Henry had to say about the 94-95 car :

Quote :"The car put Ferrari on the right track after several seasons of poor competitiveness in the early 1990s. Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi proved the car's competitiveness throughout the two seasons, with a brace of podium places and four pole positions. Bad luck limited the number of wins to one each for both Berger (1994 German Grand Prix) and Alesi (1995 Canadian Grand Prix), particularly Alesi who was in a position to win at Monza and the Nürburgring in 1995, but the car was a solid and competitive proposition".

"Both Alesi and Berger moved to Benetton for the 1996 season, and were replaced by Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine. Schumacher tested with the 412T and declared the car to be 'good enough to win a world championship.' "

    Autocourse 1994-95 by Alan Henry

I think I would side with Henry and Schumacher myself but like I said, the pictures in that book are probably really cool...

Can't argue with you there, although I think Schumy would have his hands full if he were driving Lewis's Mclaren (or the Ferrari for that matter) I'd give anything to see him give it a try...

Honestly, all this "Button is like Schumacher" stuff reminds me of all the "Lewis will break all Schumacher's records" talk last season. All those diehard Mclaren Hammy fans are currently reworking that math...

It could be my bad memory but I don't recall an LH fan saying any such thing last season. I think most of the posts on the subject were probably from those who disliked him saying, in effect, "he's no MS", rather than those who rated him making any positive comparison.

Good points, but I can remember watching back in those days and the consensus is the car was not anywhere near McLaren or Williams levels, and importantly when MS joined he made it look much better than either Alesi or Berger.

The McLaren of today is also only fractions of a second a lap slower than the Brawn ... so fair comparison. AND in this case EXACTLY the same engine between the dominant car and the supposedly useless McLaren. There are lots of very good drivers that cannot drive around a bad car, lots.

Button and Schumi have at least one thing in common: Neither would have achieved nearly as much without Ross Brawn.

    Jack.

(My 1,200th post is so profound....)
