Gosh, I'm getting goose bumps just typing this. Deja vu all over again.

Nico got the 2nd seat next to Webber in the 2006 Williams team.

Yes. I got it off Swiss Blick, but you can also find it here in English:
    http://www.formula1.com/

Can't wait to have the other great names back as well. Call me a sentimental fool, but when I started following F1 religiously those were the names that mattered: Lauda, Villeneuve, Scheckter, Piquet and somewhat later Rosberg
    :)

I don't understand this move by Williams. Nothing against young drivers but I just hope that FW knows what he's doing.

FW being very brave at the moment. I think he knows BMW have left he needs to take risks to win again. This guy will keep MW honest and push for points. Plus former world chapions son's have been good for him in the past, see Damon Hill!

Well, after Andretti, Villieneuve (sp?) and Schekter, I don't know that former greats sons are all that inspiring...

What does he really have to lose if Nico is a bust? Who knows how the team will go with the cosworth and Williams has been looking not so good the last few years. It's a good move publicity wise. I think if MW has another year like last, Piquet Jr will be in the other seat.

According to Pizzonia he has money from sponsors who want a German driver to be the next Schumacher. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't he Finnish?

VERY Finnish although of Swedish descent (i.e. Swedish last name but Finland was long-time part of the kingdom of Sweden and still bi-lingual despite the Swedish minority).

Very Impressive ! I myself belong to the 6% minorite of finns who have swedish as their mother tongue.

Anyways, Keke raced under finnish flag, and Nico used to race under a split flag German/Finnish. If he won, they played the finnish national anthem in every other race, and german in every other. But nowadays it's german alltheway, But GOOD news anyways !

Oh well, celebrating the 6th of December either in the nightclub of the Ilves in Tampere or the one of the Hesperia in Helsinki, does teach you something about the country and its people... ;-)

What makes Rosberg Sr. so great? I think he had guts to spare in the race car but I believe he was a lucky champion. Driving wise I thought he was not as good as Senna, Lauda, Prost, Piquet, Mansell...

I'll agree with you, he was lucky and I don't think he was as good as your list. But, he was brilliant to watch. I was lucky to witness the Dallas GP in 1984 as my first F1 race. With deteriorating track conditions and 100+deg heat (although Keke had a “cool” helmet on) he drove a perfect race as others were stuffing their cars into the wall left and right. I also got to see Rene Arnoux come from last place to second in the Ferrari (his car didn't fire on the pre-grid and he had to move to the back). An even greater feat than Keke's that day which made me want to become a race driver and a Ferrari fan. Mansell ran out of gas just short of the finish line and pushed his car over it then collapsed out of exhaustion getting the last points paying place.

well, his mum is a german, and he races with german colours. pluz, i tink frank made a good brave choice. i would rather see how he fares, compared if frank gave the opportunity to pizzaboy. i think pizzaboy had enough of chances, time to see someone new, and who knows, he might just blow off webber in his 1st season.. just a wild guess tho ;)

I would have liked Bourdais or Wheldon challenge Rosberg at Williams. May be a shoot out like they did for Heidfeld and Pizzonia last year.

Rosberg may perform but a test driver position could have been good for him. He's very young and has time to improve his game.

This is a make or break for Rosberg. If he does not perform it will be hard to jump to another team (that's if no sponsor money is involved).

I agree in general. He was fun to watch though and as I said, I'm a sentimental fool. :)

I just love having the names of World Champions on the grid. Silly I know. Every time I see the huge posters of former champions on the outside of the Indy motodrome, I get goose bumps.

Tillman: Just for the record, Villeneuve won the title with Williams.

I'm aware of that, he got very lucky to be with that team at that time. I think his performance at BAR, Sauber, Renault speaks more to his true abilities

Not to hijack this thread, but I disagree. He was brilliant in CART and he showed Hill that Damon was nothing but a glorified test driver in Jacques' rookie season (sorry for this stilted sentence).

I think he past his zenith after the title and lost all motivation. I think the talent is still there. Even this year he was darn quick at times, but there was never any consistency because of lack of interest. Just my two Canadian $.

From 1994-2001 he was clearly one of the fastest and most fearless racers in the world. He was 2nd only to Schumacher for many years and its a crying shame he went and created BAR during his prime years, when he was superquick and hugely motivated. He was in demand and had plenty of championship titles left in him. You can't say JV was no good at BAR..
Some of his old qualy laps and race drives in the BAR's were simply full of commitment. 2000 was one of his best years in F1 (not Stats but overall performance with a midfield car)

When Pollock left BAR and Mr. Richards arrived, you could see something wasn't going right with JV.

I agree with tifosi12...JV showed us this year that he can still be quick.

Give us the old Villeneuve (before 2002)!

    Back to the subject..

I'm happy that Rosberg got the job.

Now why Pizzonia has to go say...""Nico has potential," he said, "but has never been quick in the tests he did with Williams".
    Jealous?

Williams picked Heidfeld and now Rosberg....
Pizzonia is clearly not wanted + he is not fast enough (imo) + Webber doesn't really like him.
