I wanted to make a new thread but I figured people here don't care about GP2. Great thing you made it. I can't beleive speedtv didn't show the race but atleast we get to see it 2 weeks later. (oct 16th on speedtv I think) I followed the race on eurosport.co.uk, GP2 live timing. With 6 or 7 laps to go, the engine in Premat's car was smoking but it didn't change the result at the end. Heikki needed to be 2nd to still be a contender. Rosberg's teammate (Premat) drove one hell of a race. Congratutions Nico! Both Nico and Heikki should be in F1 next year. Very fast, talented, they're ready for F1. ps: The fight for 3rd is still on the line.. Speed 65.5 points Premat 63 points Premat is starting 7th tomorrow and Speed last.
What happened to Speed in the sprint race ? DNF ? 2.5 points difference with 1 race to go. Should be a good battle if Speed can more up the grid.
On lap ten he spun out of the race at turn one, with the car seemingly unable to slow and running straight before stopping next to the barriers.
I'm not surprised. Nico did very well when testing for F1. I hope to see him in a F1 cockpit next year. Same goes for Speed and Piquet. If only Lauda was faster, darn.
The Speed TV commentators think he is the worst of the champions kids that race. Piquet Jr and Nico are way better.
I used to think Speed and Heikki were the next stars, and they may well be, but Nico is absolutly kicking but. Now if Williams can Re-group. What are the odds of a Rookie world champ ? Nah !! PS; Andretti Jr got screwed.
Congratulations to Nico - having watched him in person, he definitely has a different style than the others and obviously it has paid off for him. If you are referencing Marco, the last thing I saw about him was that he'd be driving an MC12 if Guiseppe could get additional sponsors. Carol
I believe Alan Jones' son is out there racing somewhere, and I know Nigel Mansell's son is getting involved. If they make the grade, if Marco Andretti does better than his dad, and if Mathias Lauda can get his act together, you could conceivably have an F1 grid someday that has the names: Andretti, Jones, Lauda, Mansell, Piquet, Rosberg. It probably won't happen, but it would be rather nostalgic for those of us who saw their fathers (and grandfathers) race!
In the second race Rosberg cruises to another win and Speed finishes a lap down but hangs on to third place in the series by a half a point up on Premat. Interesting note that after Rosberg won the championship yesterday he said he was going to party like a Finn tonight. But Keke shot that down by saying no you won't as you have a race tomorrow but I will party like a Finn !
Alain Prost's son is racing as well but he's 24 already and probably won't make F1. He's doing Formula Renault I believe.
I forgot to mention, Senna's nephew is also racing in f3000 and apparently pretty quick and has full support of the foundation. He should be making noise soon.
