That was an incredible game. I think the Heisman should be re-thought after Vince Young's game tonight. Great Game UT.
WHAT AN OUTSTANDING GAME!!!!! That may have been the best bowl game in history. I was worn out after it was over. Way to go UT and way to go Trojans
I didn't stay up to listen to the post-game. Did he do something to lead you to say that? Great game! Clearly the two best teams in the country with a big gap between them and #3.
The SC QB said something along the lines of "We lost tonight, but we're still the best team. They were lucky". I don't recall the exact quote, but gracious loser certainly isn't his style.
Absolutely amazing game. Between the Orange Bowl two nights ago, and the Rose Bowl last night, I've had two great nights of football. BCS aside, they put some great matchups on the line this year.
Well done, Longhorns. I will attend a funeral tomorrow for a long time coach, in Texas City. He devoted his life to educating young men, in sports as well as life, eventually serving not only as sports coach, but as school administrator, on School Board and maintaining the TCISD stadium......... He attended UT.......well done, Coach Cansler. He passed December 27, 2005.............I guess he had the best seats, to watch the game. Hook 'em Horns!
What an amazing game! I was going to pack it in for the night half way through the 4th, but man, am I glad that I stayed and watched till the end!!
I was pulling for Texas BIG TIME. I am very happy for you guys. I wanted TX to win anyway but especially because of that 3 in a row thing. I am still pissed over the 1966 season when three in a row was taken from Alabama over pure politics and GIVEN to Notre Dame. The last thing I wanted was USC to march around with that honor I would like to wish all you Texas fans many more great seasons and National Championships!
Check out the correspondence between me and my little SoCal Cousin (btw: I'm the oldest of my generation and he is the youngest i.e. 42 vs 12). I haven't replied to the last email but was thinking of sending him a video clip of Bevo or maybe download and send the song "Screw you We're from Texas" by Ray Wiley Hubbard Email #1 (after he received my christmas present of a baseball hat with the longhorn logo on it): -----Original Message----- From: Cameron [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, January 01, 2006 3:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: go trojans Hey David, What is up couz. Well why don't you give a call down here to so cal during the game. Talk to ya later CAMERON P.S. see you after the longhorns get their butts whoped. TROJANS 45 TEXAS 24 (3 in a row for USC boy!!)
Yes, but they would have got in and taken up more time off the clock and then USC would have had no time to score again. There was a bunch of bad calls through out the game and USC ran the playclock down past zero at least three times before being whistled. The refs also let the clock run down nearly 50 seconds after the 6 minute mark when Texas was trailing by more than a touch down and field goal. USC was lucky they were not called for holding many times....the refs just let em do more than they let Texas. Regardless, it was a great game and Texas prevailed and made Keith Jackson eat crow.....and all of the other west coast biased media. d
You should reply with something like "I'm sorry I wasn't able to watch the game last night. What happened? I can't seem to find anyone who knows who won."
Longhorns are awesome!! Being from So. Cal I've gotten so tired of hearing about how great USC is. My son Andrew age 14 and my dad (Grandpa) went to the Rose Bowl game last night. Andrew had his Vince Young Jersey on and told me before the game "Dad, it will be close, but Texas WILL win". He became a big Texas fan after attending last years Rose Bowl and watching them beat Michigan. This year Andrew played his 6th and final season of Pop Warner football (Fullback/Linebacker) and during the season on several occassions he wore a Texas t-shirt under his pads. Everyone on his team were USC fans, even the coach and they always gave him a hard time. As far back as September he was telling me Texas will beat USC in the Rose Bowl "Just wait Dad". Needless to say he is one happy 8th grader today. And Oh by the way, guess where he dreams of playing football in 5 years? TEXAS!! Congratulations Longhorn fans.
Yeah especially the one that allowed the touch down for Texas, when the guys knee was clearly down before he latteraled the ball. If the refs would have reviewed that, like they should have, USC would have clinched their 3rd Championship. Yeah the Longhorns won, but it wasn't a fair and square win. The refs did a crap job. USC may have been lucky the refs didn't make the right calls, but Texas is even luckier the refs didn't make the right calls. On the other hand your QB was just awesome. The guy was just unstoppable.
well, it wasn't all the refs......LA Times had a good review of the game...."Trojans Discover the Enemy Within, and an Era Ends Quietly"
Yes it was!! Thoses types of calls are missed all the time. UT intercepted a ball that was ruled an incompletion. VY was going to score on that drive anyway.
Yes it was a good game and V. Young is a great player as well as Bush and other on the USC offense. The problem is that neither of these teams have a defense worthy of a National Champion. Both teams gave up over 570 yards! That is pathetic.
To reprise for all on-board an earlier email to you, Sir Wes of Scuderia, here's my final take on the Championship .... Whoa, Nelly, I'll take a triple-shot latte! Just as the men of Troy thought they'd finally closed the door on an unprecedented 3-peat, in the dead of night, Vince-a-dopolis (or whatever Greeks called themselves back then) slashed his way through Traveler and unleashed a 4th and 8 broken-field scramble to lead his troops to the spoils with but 19 seconds remaining. What more is there to say? A classic, yes. Unbelievable, of course. It really doesn't matter. One fact remains: be it Pop Warner, Junior High, High School, College or Pros, Mr. Young put together the best 2nd half performance I've ever seen, single-handedly dragging his Longhorns to victory. Give the victors their due. They deserve it.
The officiating was HORRIBLE in nearly every bowl game I watched. Did anyone watch the Florida/Iowa game? Some major blown calls, and all of them in Florida's favor. One of the announcers commented that he thought the officiating crew could not keep up with the speed of the game. They were Conference USA (think East Carolina and Rice) officials doing a Big 12/SEC game. They were not up to the task. That said, people make mistakes and I think bad calls need to be accepted as an element of the game and never as an excuse, win or lose. Florida benefitted this year but last year they were hurt by 2 officiating mistakes made at the end of their game vs. Tennessee. True champions play well enough so that their fortunes don't depend on how a call is made on a particular play or two. I am a Florida alum and my reaction to last year's Tennessee game is that Florida should not have allowed themselves to be in a position to where the refs could impact the outcome. Same is true for USC in the Rose Bowl.
My son wanted me to watch the game with him and my wife as I am not a fan. Glad to see this game. I like the enthusiasm of college ball. A+ for effort all around. Its the execution that lacks which makes it fun to watch. Texas did intercept at one point but the ground caused the fumble, which was ruled an incompletion. It goes both ways.
