Rossi is apparently very pleased with the way and speed of his recovery from shoulder/leg injuries. So much so that he wants to finish the season with the remaining races (so no early retirement).
I'm looking forward to next season!

p.s. I think Dovi is no championship material. Too bad, because when he joined MotoGP I thought he would do very well.

Wow, wow, and wow! Classic Rossi! So enjoyable to watch.

I must admit, at the start, when he dropped back to 11th or 12th, I was thinking to myself......"......too bad Rossi is not at 100%, because we'd be in for one heck of a spectacle." And what d'ya know.........one by one, to win the race. Awesome!

    On another note;
It is the fashion nowadays for a lot of riders to hang their inside leg out coming into a turn, which is something I think Rossi started. I have heard that he does this just to get a little more weight out there, while I suspect they do it to make themselves a little wider to anyone considering passing them. Opinions?

Seems to lack the killer instinct that makes the great ones winners. This has been apparent since on Repsol Honda. He has been passed several times in the last laps of races. Championship riders would run you off the road to keep their position.

Motogpmatter.com had an article about this stating that data collected shows no effect on Rossi's riding, so why Rossi does it is not known (at least by anybody who is talking).

My belief on the leg hanging is that as racebikes continued to shorten wheelbase, they have gotten very twitchy under braking especially with CC brakes with the rear wheel barely on the ground. By hanging the leg out, you can increase the moment arm of the bike and better control the desire of the bike to rotate laterally around the front wheel while under hard braking. Just like in diving where rotation is slowed when your arms are out vs. when you pull them in.

Totally agree! The fight for third was terrific, but Rossi and Lorenzo showed some great moves as well in front of that pack.

Thing is, we never know what level of equipment Rossi is riding on. You can be sure he'll never have a more updated bike than Lorenzo - best case scenario is that he is given an equal machine, which I highly doubt.

Lorenzo rode a great race. So did Rossi.

Overall, it was a great race. So much action.

Rossi explained this a couple of years ago in a Brit magazine (Bike Magazine, IIRC). Basic answer is it just "feels" right to him and once he started it, not doing it felt wierd.

Rossi explained it was all in the dry base settings from '09 he had to use from last year when he had no grip and finished 4th while Lorenzo's were from a race he won. If it was a wet race Rossi felt he could've won but having to gamble on settings that didn't work a year ago didn't pay off "as much". 2nd was a good finish and he was miles ahead of third.

Just watched the last MotoGP of this season in Valencia. Perhaps this thread should have been called "Lorenzo toying with Rossi?"!!!

    LOL!

Rossi will be testing the desmosedici tomorrow. Lorenzo can put all the #1's on the bike he wants, everyone will be paying attention to his former teammate, not him.

Lorenzo showed today that he fully deserves this year's title. No one was even close....

Of course the eyes and cameras will be on Rossi: Anything else would be very strange indeed. After all, he is the one trying something new....

No one can dispute that.....Lorenzo did an amazing job this year. He fully deserves that WC. However, he made a myriad of mistakes yesterday, and was riding with the attitude that other riders should just clear out of his way when he is approaching. It almost cost him yesterday. He's very lucky he didn't go flying off the bike.

Rossi is the man, there's no "ifs", "ands", or "buts" about it. I love it when people come out and say that "Lorenzo is better than Rossi.....", or "such and such is better than Rossi...."......it makes me laugh. I'll tell you what....give me a call when they've won half of the WCs that Rossi has won, then we can only begin the discussion. Making anything close to that claim when a rider has just won his 1st, or even 2nd WC is just absolute nonsense.

Nobody is disputing Rossi's tremendous abilities and achievements.

The point is simply that the name of this thread is both disrespectul to another great racer, who has shown he is quite capable of racing at Rossi's level, and inaccurate inasmuch Rossi has been beaten squarely and fairly in several man-to-man battles this season (oh yes; whenever Rossi is beaten there will be, of course, an abundance of reasons for that....).

Give Lorenzo a break. The guy is 23 years old and despite his fantastic career so far, with 3 world championships so far (1 in motogp, 2 in 250), he is still a long way from being at Rossi's level in terms of career-long results. He has just started; Rossi is about to finish... In 7-10 years time, we will know.

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

Yes, Lorenzo is off to a great start in his career. He is a very capable rider, and has potential to achieve great things. I do not dispute that at all.

My beef is with those who are already comparing him to Rossi. You may not be one of those, but there are certainly enough of them out there.

As far as the title of this thread, you should take that up with whomever created it.

+1. Really enjoyed the last race and was happy for Lorenzo to close out his championship year with a victory

Ummm, you throw that statement out as if it's one's imagination that the team would give Lorenzo superior equipment, knowing that Rossi is moving on to Ducati. No one really knows for sure who is riding on what evolution of the bike, and at what race, or in whatever session, but I think it's a very safe assumption to make that Lorenzo would be getting superior equipment. Also, you are minimizing the effects of Rossi's crash, and the effects it had on him making a fairly quick return to action.

If you look at last season, where we can assume they were both getting the same equipment, and they were both 100% healthy, Rossi beat Lorenzo. The year before, he destroyed Lorenzo.
