I'm new to Ferrari and the forum and am impressed with the depth of information contained here. After driving one last week I've plunked down a deposit to order a new 458 coupe but have yet to receive an allocation. The Dealer would like me to get my spec firmed up sooner rather than later, and he is a great resource obviously but I'm also looking for some owner feedback. I'd rather my first post be about driving the car, but first things first i.e. I have to get one!

Just about every option has been discussed in great detail on this site, so I've been searching the forum for the past few days and have most of my questions answered. Being that this is my first Ferrari I'm going pretty standard with Rosso Corsa exterior, Nero leather and Nero alcantara interior with the Racing seats. I'm adding the Rosso stitching, Rosso vertical racing stripe on the seats, with Rosso cavallino's on the headrests, and a Rosso belt. Thanks to many of you who have posted pictures of this combination, it really is classic and quite stunning.

My question concerns the carpets and the headliner. The configuration with black alcantara carpet and black headliner seems too dark to me, so I'm trying to lighten the interior without making it look 2 tone. Red or Charcoal inserts on the seats and doors is too much contrast for me, so I'm focusing on the carpet and headliner. Does anyone have red carpets and/or red headliner in an otherwise black interior? I'm trying to punch up the interior without going over the top, so your suggestions or photos would be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

I recently drove an FF with white stitching on black. The dash refection got me crazy. The dealer said that it is an easy matter to dye the offending section. .

Congrats on your order! I too just ordered my 458 coupe. My allocation was in October, January build, and April/may delivery. I say if you do anything make the headliner red. Mine is going to be alcantara red. I got black seats but made my center of the seat alcantara red also. How did you like the test drive, I didnt test drive the 458, I just knew I wanted it and wanted my first experience to be when i receive the car.

Slightly OT, is that a Grigio Silverstone coupe? If so, I believe I know that car very well. It was immaculately maintained by the previous owner.

Thanks, very helpful. The black alcantara looks very deep and plush. With regards to the dash stitching reflection, I'm going with red. Less contrast than black/white but I suspect it will also show reflections?

The test drive was 20 minutes so not a lot of seat time. As many have commented, the car is really easy to drive and incredibly responsive. Downshifting is a highlight with a perfectly timed lovely throttle blip. It was my first time driving a car with a dual-clutch gearbox, and although it is easy to drive, I can see it will take some time before I really can get the most out of it. I need to sign up for a 2 day performance driving class before taking delivery!

Thanks its very helpful, and the red headliner lightens up the interior. Why do you recommend black as opposed to red on the carpet?

Yes. It is a Silverstone '07 coupe. A 3-pedal as you can see (my wife will only drive manual shift). Originated in the Seattle area I believe. You could tell it was really taken care of. We acquired it in January 2012 and it has been great.

Two reasons, one practical one a matter of taste:
-- Harder to take care of red carpets
-- I think it will be a bit too much

Maybe get a set of red floor mats

Good reasons to not go with Rosso carpet. Does the red stitching on the dash of your 430 show reflections on your windscreen?

No.. and my 458 with yellow stitching is also OK. I would just stay away from white stitching, although it can be dyed black while in place.

IME, silver stitching creates reflections, too.

I went for a very similar combination to what you are thinking about. I too wanted nero leather but wanted the interior a little brighter. I went for Rosso Carpets and added Rosso Piping on the seats and Rosso Horses (standard seats). I went with nero stitching on the leather as I thought it was getting a bit too red in there. I also went for the lower zone in leather to break up the red carpets, keeping to the black and red theme I also went with a black leather headliner.

I'm really happy with how it turned out and get lots of compliments on the combination. Regarding the upkeep of red carpets, so far they don't seem to have been much of a problem to keep clean, I guess time will tell.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, poor lighting and an iphone camera don't make the best combination. If you want some higher resolution pictures just ask and I'll send them.

Thanks for the pictures, very nice and very helpful. A couple of questions:

Did you order alcantara carpet or is that the standard red carpet?

What did you order to get the floor in red but the central console in black? It also looks like the area behind the seats is black not red, curious why that isn't red carpet?

If you could post/send higher res pictures that would be helpful.

    Thanks again.

I have standard red carpet in mine. As a previous post mentioned getting the lower zone in leather (mines in carpet) makes it less bright - I also have black leather headliner. Note the carpet goes to shoulder level behind the seats and but ordering a leather rear shelf brings leather down to centre console level.

I would order red carpet again but in conjunction with the rear shelf and lower zone. The cavalinos were standard on the race seats in 2012 but are now chargeable and smaller.

My carpet is standard and not alcantara. I looked at both and actually preferred the look of the carpet, the sample of red alcantara I saw was a little more 'pink' in hue and didn't match the red piping / stitching as well.

With regards to the black leather on the central tunnel. The option is called 'Lower Leather Zone', or something similar. This provides leather on the central tunnel down to the carpet on the floor and also the leather behind the seat covering the shelf but leaving an exposed piece of carpet up to the rear window. There is a further option which can be ordered which replaces this carpet with leather, I forget the same but I think it is confusingly called 'rear shelf in leather', even though the actual shelf is covered with the prior option. I'll post more pictures later when I get a chance.

I appreciate the advice and feedback and have decided to forgo the red carpet. In fact I'm scrapping the Alcantara carpet upgrade and instead opting for the regular carpet but adding the leather lower zone upholstery.

So the interior options color choices will be:
DAAL - black leather with black alcantara
    STC2 - red stitching
    EMPH - red stitched cavallinos
?? - red leather stripe on the seats
CTU3 - black leather lower zone upholstery
UALZ - black alcantara upholstery for upper zone

With the DAAL option the headliner will be black alcantara. I'm thinking of changing just the headliner to red, to lighten up the interior a little. (I like the look of the F430 pictured above with the red headliner) Is that material alcantara?
