[ Note most the pics in this thread were lost in the disk crash... but they are now available here. ] I didn't want to post non-Monterey pics to the Monterey thread... so, here's the start of a trip report getting there... I'm too tired to elaborate much... but the pictures tell the story pretty well... We decided to do Route 66 going out. We also decided to focus most of our time in California... trading a bit more dull routing in other places for more time in CA. The car did great... its comfy and fun... though it did get a bit of glue-like goo on it and tons of bugs. Its getting over 20mpg again, though I haven't computed it precisely yet. Anyway, enough of that... time for pics...
Ya say there's a road to the top of a mountain in this here town? Just point me the way... And a great drive it was!!
116 degrees is hot... lots of that... highest was 120 degrees F while crossing Hoover dam... yikes! Car didn't seem to mind... though it was the first time the car seemed to strain at all keeping the interior cool!
Well, no... we didn't cross the Atlantic... Paris on the Strip in Vegas... also visited Egypt (Luxor), New York, Monte Carlo, etc.
Left Las Vegas fairly early... it was only 95 degrees out... sigh... stayed hot until we got to California... and then majorly cooled off as we headed into Yosemite, where we planned to spend most of the day... and a great decision that was... Yosemite is staggering... however, as beautiful as Yosemite is, some argued that a Ferrari is more beautiful! Here's me trying to take a picture of Bridal Veil Falls with my Stradale in the foreground... well, by the time I crossed the street to line up the shot, a few people were looking at my car. So, I waited a bit for them to clear... and more people came... so, I waited, and even more people came. There were more people taking pictures of my Ferrari than of the Bridal Veil Falls!! So, I just snapped a few of the people taking pics of my car and moved on...
Moving a little quicker at the stops, I did manage to get a few good pics of my Stradale (and of course, many of Yosemite)... here's a few of the Ferrari-infused shots...
While there were many highlights of Yosemite... the twisty roads... the awesome scenery... the beauty... I must emphasize that the tunnels there are acoustically AWESOME!! It cannot be described!
Spent the third night in a little 6-unit B&B-like place outside Mariposa... quite the change from Luxor the previous night.
Finally saw another Ferrari! (thought not entirely unplanned ) Nice place for a filling breakfast... which was fortunate, since there was no time for lunch this day (the day of the Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance)... ... and so ends this pictorial of the trip to Monterey. I'll post Monterey pics in the official Monterey thread that Rob started. [ Note most the pics in this thread were lost in the disk crash... but they are now available here. ]
Brian, Those pictures are awesome, and i like your mantra "use it" appears to me that you do, much better than simply having an expensive garage decoration. cheers

Hey - is that "The Swedish Mill" buffet/restaurant just below Kingsburg? Used to go there once/twice a month when returning from twice-weekly acupuncture treatments in '73-'74. _____ Glad to see the folks from all over see the uh, tourist attraction with Bridal in background

Hi! Did you take all the shots or did your passenger also add to the collection? Quite impressive and great memories. Does your passenger now need a hearing aid due to your tunnel exceleration exercises which I have experienced first hand? Love from the wifey PS You forgot to mention the skunk that kept you hostage in the phone booth outside that quaint little b&b (so quaint that there is NO phone in your room.) LOL
