Anyone tried the route Napoleon this time of the year?

    Is it snowy?

Do I need winter tyres or will the normal Zero Rosso cope?

Are there any proper winter tyres for Ferraris?

If it is too snowy, any recommendation for other routes in France that might be more suitable?

    Thanks for the help,

    Oded

Have you upset the Europeans? 8 hours since you posted and still no response!
I could understand it if perhaps you had upset the UK region but a whole continent?

No, I definitely do not want take it in the snow. That's why I was trying to find out whether it is snowing there this time. Seems that the answer is yes which calls for a new plan.

Did your premiums go through the roof following your claim? I have always assumed that this would be the case.

Sounds bad - what exactly did you have to do to be =in that situation?

Reminds, last winter, while still driving a humble SAB 93, I was working in Macclesfield and staying overnight in Buxton.

It was in the big snow winter that, on the way beck to Buxton, I found the road closed. Not knowing the area and alternative routes, and with the weather that seemed improving (there was not any snow inside Macclesfield any longer) I ventured crossing.

Well, after nearly two hours of slowly driving in first gear, 1200rpm I sort of understood a thing or two :) Gladly, I survived to tell the tale.

Having driven in Norway, in snow and ice but with proper winter tyres (not even studded but the right compound I guess) the difference is unbelievable.

In short 26th Dec, M6 driving south at 10.30 am just past
J 17 on the out side lane doing 55/60 mph lots of traffic when the weather started to close in . The outside lane was soon slushy and i decided to slow down without using the brakesand attempt to move to the middle lane where the road surface was much better when the cars in front applied their brakes. Big fat tyres on frozen slush =disaster. I skid across three lanes spinning -without hitting another car -hit the barrier in two places and ended up on the hard shoulder facing the on coming traffic....superb parking !!!! just a note that why the cars in front were braking was that about one mile futher on there was a ten car pile up that had caused the tailback

Nothing much - just had to be stupid and ignore the 'Road Closed' signs :)

Must admit, I am now learning how quick the civilised 575 can bite in these condition - had a moment around a roundabout and another one getting back to lane after overtaking on a single carriage way... just applying full power on third on a straight line seem to be upsetting the rear end today.

And it seem much worse since the car is back from service :(

    Ok matt
The 550 will need some cobwebs blowing out of it.
Great idea about a meet . How about starting a thread for N. West Fchat meet in January, date and place to be decided. Could you start this thread... could end up just the two of us...I'm not bothered. Might broing Marios From Autoshield as he is up for anything.
The QP V8 is running fine but whant to change it for a 3200 coupé as the prices have been in freefall!....also very family friendly with the rear seats

Apologies to Carbonrider to highjacking the thread and when are you going on this Route Napoleon would be very intrested on the route there and your experience

    Merry christmas

Given the feedback I received, and the naughty behaviour from the 575 even on just cold and damp roads (without snow), I think I will wait for the summer. Should be fun when I finally get to do it, and I will take a camera with me...

I should be getting some spring and roll bar and suspension control unit upgrade e soon + my soon-to-be-expired Zero Rossos are planned to give their place to a set of Zero Corsa around spring time. Will be interesting to drive this route with the above mods.

I will let everyone know once I have done it.

I am very intrested on feed back when you change the tyre to the Corsa from thae Rossos. I had Michelin piolets and changing them to the Zero Rossa has improved the car greatly, but to the Corsa should be intresting. Super dry grip but what about the wet?
About changing the springs , rollbar and suspension control I take it that the Fiorano pack wasn't fitted?

I am somewhat apprehensive of the wet grip of the Zero Corsa myself – that’s why I am waiting a little longer.

Fiorano pack is not fitted to my car. I have had it lowered by Scuderia together with other geometry modification that they do.

The updated spring, rollbar and control unit are the GTC components.

    GTC now you are talking
Sorry to hear that your 575 wasn't fitted with the Fiorano pack as I have heared that over 70% of 575 sold had this fitted - yours was one of the ones that got away!

Recently visited R&D Auto in Eccles and they have a power boost for the 550 avaliable that frees a few more horses from the engine together with better air filters/ air intake. They have done a few 550 and after xmas will talk to the owners to get their views. I will let you know in January
