Need to upgrade my ancient Linksys router, set up a secure network for the house and would like to get a powerline adapter for the Blueray to stream HD movies from Netflix. We have a couple of laptops, a desktop with a local printer, Wii (wireless), and Samsung TV and Blueray that are "wireless capable" but were sold without wireless adapters (and I'd rather get powerline adapter to get quality streaming); current router is about 7 years old at least.

Don't really trust salespeople too much, would appreciate recommendations for home networking - nothing over the top, basic work and entertainment, no crazy gaming or anything. Really appreciate it, guys!

Why powerline adapters? Why not just run CAT 5/6 lines inside the walls?

I'm from the Platonic school of training. ;-p

In any case, I asked because power line adapters are limited in speed, though not more so than wireless. A wired connection will still offer the best speed performance. Most casual users will not notice the performance bottleneck, but if you do a lot of simultaneous streaming processes like movies, music, p2p, file transfers, real-time gaming; you will really notice it.

I'd be one of them casual users who won't notice and would hate drilling holes in her nice house!

LOL touche on "Platonic" (or Socratic, as they called it in law school)
