    No decadent to me.

Many guys (schuey etc) earn a lot of cash for nothing at all.
At least these people have an historical right on the country, have a lot of cash on their own (ok, who it really belongs to is to be discussed), and promote a british way of living.

Do you have any idea of how much money they bring to the country each year?! They bring more than they cost.

A new hospital to be opened. Not a big deal. Ribbon to be cut by a royal. Very big deal. Famous people fly in from around the world, spend lots of money while staying in overpriced England. Extend to sporting events. Events with prizes endorsed by a member of the royal family. Huge draw. Other things with the "royal" seal on them. Big draw.

I think that's how it works in theory. Not sure if reality is the same.

I'd be curious to get an unbiased view on their value. My guess is they are a big drag on the tax payer and it's an expensive, symbolic tradition.

Actually, I've been in the UK for 8 weeks and have no idea how this works, hence the thread's creation. I do appreciate the posts though.
