One of the most outstanding FXXs IMO is the Tour de France blue FXX owned and demonstrated by F-Chatter RTB (who I met briefly at Silverstone this year). Unfortunately Hot Wheels only produces a version without race numbers and without black wheels. So I decided to make my own version. I bought e second FXX for the black wheels and a decal set from eBay for the correct race numbers (including the small ones on the sun visor of the front window). The only thing that's left to be done is painting the tow hook in the nose red (I only noticed it when taking pictures).

    Best, Peter

Thanks for the comments guys. It's quite simple to do really. Just unscrew the six screws of the bottom plate in order to get to the front wheel assembly (the body can't be fully separated easily from the chassis because one part of the engine is connecting both). Unscrew the front wheel assembly and replace it. The rear wheels can be pulled off but with great care because the brake calipers are attached to the chassis and can break if pulled too hard. The rotors are separate pieces and will catch the calipers if pulled too hard. On eBay there are regularly decal sets offered for several FXX versions including the Schumacher one.

    looks pretty good.

so it is a basic HW, with custom decals and Elite wheels?

What are your plans for the second Elite, how will you convert it? [If this is the case]

    Hi,

The blue FXX is already an Elite version but an earlier version. The later series Elite FXX all have the proper black wheels. That's about the only difference I could find between the first and second series Elite FXX (the tires of the second version are more realistic as well).

The second Elite that I used as donor car has now got the silver wheels and I will sell it because I only wanted the blue one.

How do you take the wheels off? I've been trying to figure it out on the f2007 but don't want to break any of the wimpy plastic.

I don't think the silver is really wrong either, I have seen a lot of the 1:1 FXX's with those silver wheels.
My guess is HW's started on the 1:18's very early and those were the more common wheels at the time (silver).

At the presentation the FXX had silver wheels, but I haven´t seen any costumer FXX with silver wheels, let alone while used on the track.
