on some show i caught the end of, i saw this rubber spray that was used to color the wheels. once you got tired of it, the rubber coating could just be peeled off, without any damage.

    anybody know what this is?

Yes but its kinda matte, even with the gloss coats. At least it was when I tried it out in white. Pretty cool though and cheap :)

Yes, I've done a few sets. Very easy to apply and remove without any issues.

I've done numerous sets of wheels and one whole vehicle. It is pretty durable and very reasonable to change the appearance of your wheels/etc.

You tube is loaded with videos. There are tricks to using it 'correctly'. As strange as it sounds multiple coats must be applied in order to make it easier to remove.

    I don't suggest doing it...

I've delt with so many people in my area that have dipped wheels. It doesn't do any damage to them but don't be fooled, its not always THAT easy to get off. Its a crapshoot... sometimes it comes off easy but sometimes it takes the better part of a day.

The thicker it is the easier it is to take off.

Yep, a friend of mine had a blue 3 series BMW that we dipped pearl white. It came out well for the first time doing a complete vehicle. I will see if I have pics. As for wheels, as others have said, the more coats the merrier. It's much easier to remove with multiple coats. If you have some areas that are difficult to remove, a pressure washer will make short work of it, as well as goo-gone, wd-40, etc.

I did a set of wheels on my old Audi.

On my 997, I’ve used plastidip on the lettering, and also on the exhaust tips. Has been on for over a year with no issues. Eventually, I’ll get the exhaust tips powder coated, but I wanted to see what it looked like with the plastidip. As long as it looks good, I can keep putting off getting them powder coated.

I use four coats of clear PlastiDip on my front license plates to protect them from rock chips.

^^^It is really dip, I assure you of that. I sprayed both sets of wheels. I use an airless sprayer/paint gun to apply. Yes, use multiple thin coats. I do a minimum of 5-6 coats. I apply tire dressing to the tires and that helps it not stick to the tires and eases in removal.
    Hope this helped!

Wow I would never have guessed that those wheels were dipped - they wouldn’t look near that good if I was doing them!
