Rubens Barrichello INDY 500 2012 Pit Stop

I could be wrong but I'm guessing he was filming refueling and tire changes???

I have an EXREMELY cool Rubens story from the 500 yesterday.

So after searching all weekend for anything with Rubens on it, the only thing I could locate was the official starting picture in the infield official store so I purchased it.

After the race I arrive at the airport and after walking around a bit looking at more indy stuff, I go through security. Moments after I see two guys in the Airport Champps walking out with full BMC garb and hats on.

I firmly state to the first guy who walks out that he either has to be a sponsor or know someone because the only thing I can find with Rubens on it is this picture and I show him the photo. I tell him I have been a Rubens fan for 19 years and came to the 500 just to see him race in it.

He tells me that the guy walking out behind him OWNS BMC CORP!!! The owner walks out and says he just got done texting Rubens and RB was asking him if they were going to meet up for dinner but he told Rubens he had to get back to Brazil.

The funny part was it was all written in Portugese so I couldn't read it but he was scrolling up and showing me the conversation with RB...he also says that this was just a "test" race for Rubens and he did very well. I said, "he did great! 11th in his first ever oval and it was INDY!!!"

Then the guy who is not the owner is talking to me and says "here, take my hat" and GIVES ME the RUBENS BMC sponsor cap right off his head.

I almost teared up...it was bloody awesome. I told them I would tell as many people as I could about them and thier company.

It was awesome!

It was BLOODY hot out there, eh? Worth it for me to see Rubens!!! Great race but man I drank about 3 litres of Gatorade and never looked for a bathroom. It was smoking hot.

 

That is what makes Indy special...great story!!

I'll never foget the guy that handed me his fresh IMS Yellow Hat (local Track/Gate volunteer)...I don't think they are suppose to let those get away...

 

I was lucky enough to see him at testing at Sears Point here in Sonoma a few weeks back. He was the reason I went to watch a new car on a road course...
