Would be just like watching MS versus RB ... Ralf has never passed MS and is scared of him. Big brother completely dominates that relationship Pete
One vital thing missing from Rubens' quote. He didn't DENY the rumors! All he said is that its distracting the team. Todt's comments sure didn't seem to deny anything either. I don't know how the creator of this thread thinks that because Rubens said this, he must be staying at Ferrari! Sure, its a possibility that he stays, and if I were him, I'd stay too. I'd stay until they pried my dead hands off the steering wheel. But will he leave? I think he will. Did it seem like he was even trying this past weekend? C'mon, 10th? And at that, he's lucky the Sauber's decided to go barbequeing instead of finishing, or else he would have been 12th. I think DC would have beaten him too, which puts him in 13th. Some of you guys are clinging to every last thread that Rubens will stay, and I hope you prove me wrong. But from what I've seen and heard, his heart isn't there anymore. I personally think he wants to get out of Michael's shadow, and try to be a #1 driver for someone.
Now that would have been an achievement ... the race I watched saw DC retire on the first lap. While I've been bashing RB, I think he tried a little harder than that Pete
Yes, DC retired because Mr. Alonso's wing turned the straight into an improptu "slalom" course. I'm not saying the Red Bull would have left RB in the dust, but he surely is around a 10th place car or so.
Yes but anyone knows that story is pure BS. Villeneuve's best years are waaaaay behind him, like when he was in champcars.
Bingo! Regarding Rubens, all the announcers thought he'd be nuts to leave Ferrari, but I don't agree. I think any driver wants to be #1 or else they would not be a racing driver. I think the "contractually mandated #2 role" would wear hard on any driver and I think Rubens could ENJOY himself somewhere else, much like DC has been. I think he is leaving. I think the article posted almost confirms it. If he had no intention of leaving, he would just say so. The fact that it was not denied either by Todt, BAR, or Rubens speaks volumes.
Hot off the Pitpass website. Speculation and rumor are now over. Official: Rubens out, Massa in at Ferrari 02/08/2005 Ferrari has officially announced that it has taken up a renewable option on a contract that dates back to 2001, tying Felipe Massa to the Scuderia. Therefore, the agreement means that Felipe will race for the team for the 2006 season. Rubens Barrichello will leave the team at the end of the 2005 season, after a successful and rewarding collaboration that dates back to 2000 and has contributed, to date, to the winning of five Constructors' World Championships.
He's busy editing his reality:. "Doesn't everyone know that FM was destined for the Scuderia? I've always said he'll bring excitement to the team. Ferrari 1-2!!!!ONE!!!!" EDIT: personally, I'm excited for RB. He's always been my favorite driver, I hope he lands in a great seat for next year
I still have not heard it from Jean Todt, Rubens or Massa. There is nothing on the AP and nothing from Ferrari press. Either way I will stick to my initial statement which was: Thank you for all the memories Rubens! Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
Your follow-up statement was a post with quotes from Rubens and Todt claiming he was NOT leaving Ferrari after this season. You forgot that post, maybe?
http://www.felipemassa.com/index2.php?lang=uk&go=news%2Fnewsdetail.php%3Fid%3D238%26year%3D2005 From Felipe Massa's site. Looks like it's official.
I can't wait for his first interview as a BAR driver. I hope he is going to spill some inside beans. Q: "Rubens, what were your thoughts in Zeltweg when you got that call?" ...and how about Indy the same year or Canada last year...
Rubens is a gentleman and I doubt he would have said anything "fun". So the rumors say that he is moving to BAR. He has not said where he is going and BAR has not confirmed their line up for 2006. So is he going to take Button's place or is he going to take Sato's place??!!?? Button looks like he is going to be stuck at Williams, so I am guessing the BAR line up is: Rubens and Sato. IN ANY CASE WELCOME Felipe Massa!!! Make us all proud!!!
