Can someone please tell me what button near the cockpit door controls the rudder on an Al Nippon 737? The news report on an unscheduled dive of that airplane was caused by the pilot inadvertently hitting "rudder control button" when he went out to go to the bathroom. I just LOVE the news media.

I read a report that the copilot hit the rudder trim switch instead of the flight deck door switch. Makes a bit more sense, but also makes one wonder about Boeing's flight deck layout.

I certainly cannot see a layout problem here. The controls are separated and they are of different size. I recall a problem in some B-24's where the master switch was too close and too similar to the main LG retraction switch. A few surprises until a guard was installed on the master switch.

In the still from the video above the katakana on the lower left translates to "Door Switch" and the right/center is "Rudder Trim Control Switch"... HTH

    Best,
