As I enter a village at 30 mph, I manually select third gear, trickling along with just 1100 rpm showing on the tach. As the open road beckons at the other end of the village, I'm able to accelerate away with good initial throttle response, even from such low crankshaft speeds. The progressive thrust strengthens rapidly and, from 1800 rpm up, the scenery begins to blur very rapidly indeed.

At speed Rt-35 gathers even more speed with a vengeance -- yet it does not feel anything near as fast as the recent Rt12R we tested [...] in bald power terms, 630 hp and 609 lb-ft is no match for 730 hp and 693 lf-ft. However, equally evident is the even peachier delivery of the Rt-35 flat six. Thus us in stark contrast to the Rt12R's flagrantly aggressive demeanor.

The smoothness of the powertrain, coupled with the compliant ride on its stretched wheelbase and next-gen suspension, is very deceptive.

[This] development Rt-35 is running on a test suspension that has conventional springs with fully adjustable dampers. Even so, it fells pretty good to me. On 20x8 and 20x11-inch wheels shod with 245/35ZR20 and 305/30ZR20 rubber, the car's low speed ride is supple -- yet, it's appropriately firm at speed.
