So if the manufacturers were to start their own series, what do you think we will see in the rules. Will it be completely open to where you can run any motor, chassis and etc?

I think they would keep many of the same 08/09 regulations for atleast the first year to keep things level..

Hopefully we'd see some proper-looking cars, but I don't think a breakaway series will happen, anyway.

They don't need to break away they only need rid of Mosley and everything else would be just fine.

FOTA unity is the key to everything, if they do start another series I'm sure they will have learnt Porno Max standards are completely unworkable and contridict there very purpose.

All teams sit down together cherry pick all the older rules, known rules that work ask for fan feedback on whats best for the show ect, not a big job, main thing is get all to agree the hard bit.

Ask anyone with half a brian, I mean you only have to level the playing field to make a huge step forward, lets face it who on earth would set up a race and give one team more money and more power to change and veto the tech rules. ... ohhhhh errr

A ten year old kid could do a better job, than the present idiot, I maintain how cananyone in there right mind think Mosley is helping F1 is totally mind numbing to me.

First, I doubt if there would be a breakaway series. Too many obstacles, and the cost would be prohibitive. Plus, potential legal action and injunctions will keep most of these teams off the track for a difficult period of time. I doubt if any of the parent companies of those FOTA members that have parent companies, would suddenly approve millions in their budgets for their share of a new series. Remember Mercedes, Toyota, and Renault BOD's are just a vote or two away from leaving F1 anyway, this would likely put the negative votes over the top. Frankly, Brawn probably could not come up with that extra money. BMW is pro budget caps, so I think they would go FIA. No guess as to Red Bull's path.

Second, if a breakway series were to happen, on top of the cost to each team of operating this new series, I doubt if you see any changes to the cars as they now appear as such changes would be costly.

Then you have to consider the existing sponsors. To assume they will do whatever the teams want is a mistake. I would suggest that 50% of the current sponsors will be gone, or they will tell their teams that they will wait and see how a new series develops. Without this money, I can only see Ferrari, Toyota and Red Bull continuing.

Personally, I would rather watch a series of 20 potentially equally constructed cars even if of no history independent teams, than a series of 3-4 known teams including Ferrari with 4 cars each to fill the grid.

I think you will see a compromise soon. FIA will get their budget caps, and FOTA will get reasonable time frames for budget caps and new rules to be implemented. If this happens, the fans win, if this does not happen and it drags out for a long time, only the attorneys win.

And I doubt if Ferrari will give up their veto right.
