Someone is going to have to explain to the new boys what the rules are for posts. I've just read a post about a flat for sale in Tenerife, which could make a great investment. I too, made a post about a friends business which would help f chatters sell their cars in the best way if they needed to both advertising, granted, but both in the interests of everyone on here.

Majority of Ferrari owners are interested in A) Investment and B) Property . I saw the reply to the flat 'cant advertise a flat on here but more than welcome to talk about anything Ferrari' ,

What a nonsense, i have seen so much on here NOTHING to do with Ferrari, bank interest rates, property prices and the list really could go on. So is it a case of, we are friends, we have been here the longest and the rules dont apply to us, but if i dont know you then the letter of the law will be carried out ! Seems that way.

I am extremly interested in investment opportunities etc that other f-chatters have to offer. If its in the best interest and can be of help to people who chat on here, whats the problem and why do some get away with it and others dont.

I have enjoyed my short time on here but am becoming very confused about what is 'Ferrari chat' and what is not !

There's a world of difference between TALKING about property prices and offering a flat for sale in Tenerife with your 1st post. I don't think it's that hard to work out the rules. Most topics are discussed here and rightly so. There's FAR more to life than Ferrari, as i'm sure you're aware. What i DO object to tho' is people using this Forum as a blatant plug for a product, biz or whatever. If i want to buy a flat in Tenerife, i'll go and look on a relevant website, do my reasearch and make my decision based on that. Pls provide an example of someone offering a product for sale here....
If you have something to offer Ferrari owners, then place the ad in FerrariAds.com.

'TALKING' about property prices has NOTHING to do with Ferrari either, so may i suggest when attempting to take the moral high ground you get your words right , this website is NOT just for talking about everything Ferrari as you told the gentleman with this flat for sale.
This website is a wonderful idea and it does work, but after spending a few weeks looking at it, there is deff an eliment of some rules for some and other rules for others,.Good luck to you all i wish you the best !

As a newcomer I can see what Stimmers is talking about.. the 'long-timers' do seem to be able getaway with more ... However I also see why tonyh is taking this line. I think that blatant unpaid advertising can't be in anyone's best interest.. afterall it wouldn't occurr to me to try and advertise my business here, as its not in any way related to Ferrari.

I don't think its so much 'one rule for newbies another rule for others'. Having used a lot of forums for the various cars I have had over the years (mkivsupra.net, pistonheads, rennlist, f-chat etc etc), you realise the way it works - ie establish your credentials first as a serious poster making some contributions to the subject matter of the board (in this case Ferrari related topics), and then yes you will be cut a little slack to talk about other topics. Believe me it will be the same whatever forum you post on.

Come onto a Ferrari board with your first post about selling a flat and in all honesty Tony was right to do what he did. Its like me joining up to a random board like photography-chat.com and trying to sell my Ferrari.

Introduce yourself first and let people get to know you rather than steaming in all guns blazing.

I was asking about selling the apartment because it is my 'stepping stone' into Ferrari ownership. I grew up arround Ferrari's and liked the togetherness around the owners, like one big happy family. I was dissapointed to say the least to find that my post had been closed. My father passed away a couple of years ago and was well known in the ferrari circles, having sold them in the late 80's to present day, and if anyone knew him in the south, it woluld have been through his showroom, West One on Finchley road, London. Many Ferrari's passed through there, so there is a chance that you either own or know a car that was his, including F40's, Koenig Boxers, and the more common stuff. I will try to compile a list for you, as at least THAT post will be allowed (hopefully). So as you consider WHAT post's are acceptable for me to post, I will be doing my research. I condider a forum to be a good place to chat about things that are close to our hearts, ie cars, money, women, and would class my first post to be in the 'Money' section. I understand that it is not a Ferrari, but it is somthing that is within reach of many of the people on the board, and that also, it will be respected as an investment. If it was an ex-councill house in a rough area, I could undersand, but a good investment that has the possiblity of earning enough money for you to mantain a couple of ferrari's, and then if you sell it, you will not loose any money, and also helping a person get themselves into ferrari ownership, then why not? We all have to survive somehow!

Chris, My current car maufacturer also has a board, bbs.scoobynet.co.uk I am a regular on it, and have found it to be what I want out of a board, but consider this board to also be a good source of information for the 'relevant' nformation that it was opened for. I could say that subaru owners are more broad minded, but having grown up around ferrari owners, I can see that this statement is just for the very small minority, and not the whole crowd.

    Best regards

    Adam

Perhaps if there were additional sub forums for UK members it would resolve the problem. ie: having forums such as:

UK Ferrari (Ferrari onlly related stuff)
    UK Business & Investments
UK Lounge (For social, jokes, etc)

    If you would care to view the codes of conduct;

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134459046&postcount=1

You will see that it is TonyH's interpretaion of the Fchat guvor's rules, that suggests the advert in question violated rule 3. I'm inclined to agree.

There is no different set of rules for the old and the new. Put it this way; If someone you had never met before came up and insulted you, you'd be pissed off; if a pal came up to you and insulted you, you would not be offended as he is known to you. This is the only reason that there appears to be a different set of rules. It has to be taken in context, and as a new member your perspective is significantly different to an old hand who has been posting for a long period of time.

Posting off topic stuff is not a problem as long as it has not hijacked a valid Ferrari flavoured thread and steered it completely off course. Tony is not an invasive moderator and will allow whatever OT activity we want until someone complains, or it violates the rules of conduct.

I think tonyh's UNPAID job on here is hard enough without new members wanting to change all the rules in there first month of posting and sulking as they get asked not to advertise there mates busness or possibally there own who knows most of the chatters on here are self employed or have there own busness's it would be a right free for all as for the chap selling a flat to get a ferrari good excuse but i need to make money to run my ferrari like every one else on here and we dont use fchat for advertising but it it used for discussions and advice

Whats that all about, and it seem this is a regular thing on most threads people post !

you know you havent read it wrong, your just trying to be clever, and i do mean trying !

I havent come here to offend anyone, i have been trying to make serious points. What is clear is that 'regulars' rule. Cant remember who put that post about 'you cant come on here being new and start changing things' or something to that effect, well that sums it up for me. perfectly !
