I hear Ferrari have been hiring in a big way since October, lots of Red Bull staff it seems are either going to Ferrari or with Peter to Mclaren
What's known is that Luca hired him. That he was Fiat's choice is speculation. When I hear hooves I think horses not unicorns.
Alonso not very impressed with matiacci comments regards the new vettel era. I'm not surprised, it reads like Alonso didn't add up to much....... Five seasons of him wringing the neck out of the rubbish that we have produced, runner up to most of the championships in those times, his stock never higher as the best driver of the current era, and matiacci takes a dig? Forza fernando.... Ferrari may not think it yet, but the loss of your skills behind the wheel with reverberate around maranello for years to come. Massive mistake and if matiacci goes, maybe one of the reasons will be that. He couldn't recognise the value in what you bring to the team.
According to Alonso he was in discussions, but his treatment of Alonso has been poor even before the final decision was taken. He seems to have blanked out the only good thing about Ferrari for almost 5 years - Alonso's driving.
Alonso has told to whoever wanted to listen to him that he was offered an extension till 2019, but that it was HIS choice, and only his choice, to leave. Can´t blame him, though. The post-decision comments is just PR for the new guy. But Alonso is too naive to understand this and took it as personal, as usual.
Promises to be a mess in my opinion, I don't see Seb being able to drag the car up the grid the way FA has.
But there are more news/rumors in the autobild report. Marco Mattiachi will step down as Ferrari Team boss but is said to become Ferrari President. The Marlboro guy will be there for the relations between the F1 Team, the FIA, CVC and the company. To block the influence from the parent company. It is said, that will be the first step to bring Ross Brawn back as the sole Team Boss of the Scuderia Ferrari
I don't think anybody ever believed Mattiachi was a permanent hire in that spot. He was / is a mid-season stop gap to replace Domenicalli, in a season where no-one coming in would have made a significant difference at that point, while the top of the house looked to reorganize. MM has done his job. Now let's see who the real team principal will be.
He really disqualified himself with those comments. All through the season as well as previous years Alonso made the car look better than it was. Everybody saw that except him.
