    Anyone else have run flat tires? The factory put them on my car. The TPMS system works great as I had a puncture and the system alerted me of low tire pressure.
    So that was great to be able to keep driving and fix the tire a day or two later at my convenience. Also from a safety standpoint it seamlessly maintained my traction.

    But I do notice that the ride is more rough due to the stiffer sidewall especially on the freeway.

    Perhaps that's my imagination. Anyone else?

    MG- Run-flat or zero pressure tires have a stiffer sidewall than regular tires so you can ride on the sidewalls if your tire goes flat. This will definitely affect ride, but you have already seen the benefits.

    My C6 Z06 Corvettes had Goodyear run-flats, and they definitely stiffened up the ride. Not a big deal and something with which you can easily live to guarantee they will get you where you want to go. Especially in this day of wheels and tires too big to carry even if you did have a space-saver spare.

    It's not your imagination at all. I had run flats on my 4 door sedan, and the ride was really rough. I was dying to change the tires to regular ones, and the ride very obviously improved. There is quite a big difference.

    You must have ordered them as they are an option.
    They are indeed handy, but IMO not for a performance car.

    Got a chance to drive a Cali demo shod with Pirelli tires. What a difference!

    My next set are going to be regular tires. The run flats have such a bouncy unpleasant ride.

    The run flats have rock hard sidewalls. ANY other tires with be a vast improvement.

    I love my Bridgestones and have been told by my track guy that run-flats and P-zeros, maybe the same thing, definitely affect ride and survivabillty! I'm all about surviving!

    Run-flats suck. The third worst thing BMW did after all the dumb designs of their cars (designed by now-infamous Chris Bangle) and i-drive systems was make run flats standard on essentially all their sedans. It's followed by cheap interior design vs. prior cockpit style- why I have an 11 year old BMW from before this stuff started going on.

    I guess it's convient if you get a flat, but for minor stuff if you go back to regular tires just carry a can of fix a flat. A bonus is the regular tires are a lot cheaper.

    I'm lucky- I have an old 360 which has the rare spare tire option (which I had to actually use once- didn't realize the front tires on the car were original and one lost it's air from dry rot cracks!)

    I'd switch to traditional tires when you are ready for a full set.

    I am not a fan of the Bangle behind design statement, "Junk ON the trunk".

    I am also not a fan of the "i-drive off the road" system either.

    Run flats on all BMW's? Maybe that explains the lackluster perfomance of their F-1 cars too.

    Depends on the run flats. The Michelin PS2 ZPs are great and fitted to the ZR1, where they produce up to 1.10 g cornering. Unfortunately, limited sizes for Ferraris. Would like them on my 575M.

    Thanks for the info about the Michelins. If they can provide a smooth ride, performance and the added value of run flat that would be great.
