Finalizing order anyone have any experience or opinions on run flat tires. Never had but TPM requires run flats. Thanks
TPM? Used to have the Goodyear runflats on the Vette but they were loud, expensive and not really great handling. Replaced them and am much happier without them, it's easy to just carry a can of fix a flat and a small electric pump in the trunk.
Tire Pressure Monitor perhaps. Runflats simply don't handle as well as normal high performance tires due to their construction. IMO, go with non runflats and tow the car if it ever needs it, or car fix-a-flat as others suggested. Personally, I haven't had a flat tire in over 5 years on any of my cars, driving through all sorts of conditions. Would never use runflats.
I've never heard anyone that drives performance cars praise run-flats, only negativity with them. It's getting tough with modern cars, especially high end cars, to get them new with anything but. Hopefully the tire market doesn't end too soon for non-run flats. It does seem things are headed that way though. I agree with previous non-flat recommendations. Our M3 has non-fun flats with the bmw fix a flat kit, thank god. Only problem is my wife keeps getting a nail in the $300+ Michelin sports! Jeff
Good choice. I have OEM Goodyear runflats on my BMW 530d and these are the crappiest tyres I have ever experienced. Wooden ride, noisy and make the car fell like it was on 21 inch gangsta wheels with just a rubber band profile where in fact the're 245/45R17. Gimme a set of Eagle F1's any day. The winter Michelin Alpin runflats are slighlty better - these I could probably live with.
Same here: I had run flats on my 545 i as MOE and I found them to be rather noisy. When it is time to replace them it is "ouch time" !
Very loud, not good handling, had to replace them at 17.000 mi. with regular tires (NON CONTINENTAL) on my Chrysler 300c Hemi. Continental tires, claimed nothing wrong with tires!!!!
BEST DECISION!!! Had run flats on my M3. If, BIG IF, you change your mind, be sure to buy a good tire replacement plan. I put 6 replacement run flats on my car in 2 years on the plan for N/C. Would have been out about $2500 otherwise. They just plain old, FLAT OUT, suck. DM
Tires with really stiff side wall so if air leaked out of the tire, the side walls are still stiff enough to carry the car weight for you to limp to a garage.
Went with ball polished stradale wheels, ceramic brakes and no run flats! Should work out pretty well
Yea I have runflats on my bimmer and I really don't like them. Only reason i'm keeping them for now is peace of mind in winter. When spring comes, i'm getting regular summers tires.
Have replaced Good Year Run Flats with Michelin A/S Run Flats a lot less noise and softer ride handling good.
