Runflat Tire Alternative? Good Tires for NY Roads?

Hi folks, dumb question - I've lost 4 tires this year to potholes (2 in Long Island, 1 in the dealership had a bubble in it, and one last night in Nyack, NY). Since my California doesn't have enough space to hold a spare, and I was told to avoid runflats, what solution do you have for handling tires on the road?

I hear you can get a "fatter" tire to handle these potholes better, is that a real thing?
I'm running Pirelli Zero 245/35/20
