Sorry if this has been discussed before. Because Ferrari owners seem obsessed with trying to keep miles low, but still wish to run their cars with gusto soon after purchasing, is it possible to run-in the car stationary? That is, coming up with a routine that runs the engine for about 1 or more hours a day at different rev cycles? If so, does such a formula exist?

Man, you gotta loosen up. Just go drive the darn thing. The smiles will make you forget about this kind of stuff.

I agree-- who cares about adding a few miles?

In any event, don't worry about it- the factory test drivers have already driven your car harder than you ever will.

Agree - drive as much as I can - but the question was meant to be academic/engineering

Many owners seem to either forget about that or not know about it. Every car is broken in on a dyno, around Fiorano and on the raods in Italy.

Your owner's manual describes the recommended run in procedure. You can do it in a day or two and have a great time while you are at it. Running a motor for hours under no load is probably worse than not at all. Don't worry about the miles. New Ferraris depreciate just sitting there, why not enjoy it if you are throwing the money away anyway?

+1 whatever everyone has said so far. Ferrari engines get absolutely flogged nowadays before the car gets delivered, so it's not like the old days - she's basically run in already. Just enjoy the car. And congrats!!!!

I've seen the test drivers abusing customer cars at Fiorano!

Plus, if you somehow keep it down to 5,000 miles over 30 years it's still going to depreciate, as Hardtop Dave points out, and it may well need a teardown anyway. And, if you persevere and don't de-flower the odometer, you'll be even more miserable driving it later because the mileage is so low after so long that it seems a shame to actually drive it 500 feet and spoil it...

The most annoying aspect of Ferrari ownership is the odometer fetish. The only way you're every going to learn about, appreciate and bond with a car is by driving it.

That said I understand not wanting to pile on the miles. The way I "keep miles off" without self-deprivation is by using my daily driver for stupid/boring errands, airport runs, etc. Take away the tedious miles and use the Ferrari for fun stuff. Live life while it's happening, not later.

Is there a way to "disconnect" my odo purely for diagnostic purposes?! ;)

YES. To diagnose dishonesty: simply remove the windshield and then the top of the dash. On the back of the speedometer there is a special yellow plug. Un-plug the green plug and plug it into the yellow one. This will erase your car's ecu programming and zero the odometer. You then take it to the dealer so they can reprogram the ecu. Simple.
