Saw a preview of it the other day in the theater.

Actually, I was disappointed. Yes some nice recreations but it comes across like a soap opera. Some lines by Hunt sound pretty corny and out of place today. It's the F1 version of Boogie Nights meets Saturday Night Fever.

People in the audience who don't know F1 kinda just looked at each other not sure what this is about. Yes, pretty pictures of race cars but it seems more like a 70's period piece.

Anyone else wonder if this thing is going to work? Will it be positive or negative inluence towards racing or towards Ferrari?

it's Ron Howard so I'm hoping for the best. follow him on twitter, lots of updates and passion for the project.

I think it will be the Backdraft or Apollo 13 of racing, not the Boogie Nights. I hope

"Boogie Nights" is a great movie and a classic now. What did you not like about it my friend?

If you are a Ron Howard fan, are you checking out the latest season of Arrested Development? He's hilarious in it.

The only way Rush will be a success is if it is sort of like a soap opera. The general public aren't going to come see it for the cars or F1 racing scenes. They are going to come for the story and characters. And the only way it helps F1 racing in the USA is if it is successful with people other than the fans.

I guess we won't need a spoiler alert with this movie, at least on Fchat! :)

Watching an interview with the F1 team director at Mercedes will pretty much do it.

I saw a preview for it too and totally loved it. I'm pretty sure this will become an instant classic and IMHO the best F1 movie there is.

Not only did they get the cars/racing right but also the authentic feel of the seventies.

Twenty years ago on June 15th, James Hunt passed away. Love him or hate him, he sure made an impression in the F1 world!

In the trailer there's a scene where some guy is explaining to Hunt who Niki Lauda is, as if he wouldn't have known. Struck me as unrealistic (obviously) and contrived. Of course I'm not going to write off the entire film just because of that. I'm still going to see it.

Every time the trailer was shown on the screen in Senna, the crowd went silent. Maybe it shouldn't have been a surprise due to the audience at hand, but I was astonished at the age demographic who had obvious interest in the flick.

The trailer looked very 'Driven' imho, and it will have a difficult time following 'Senna' for enthusiasts.

    I'll be checking the Tomatometer..;).

Hollyweird today is so canned and predictable. Very much sold to the masses of idiots.

I would be very surprised if the movie doesn't suck, but I hope it kicks ass!

Dino GT4 has a small part I am told.

    Hello All,

Rush could have plenty of racing scenes mixed with a weird blond stalker chick who is stalking the man she holds partly responsible for her husbands death. She could enjoy seeing him go to the hospital hoping to see him die, but when he lives, she is content with watching him eat as she hopes that his food is poisoned. At the end of the movie they both smile at each other as they silently agree to enjoy this game of death next year.

Oh wait, that's the overall plot of the Le Mans movie we all love so dearly. But WOW, all those scenes of a 512M and the 917 at full throttle!! We're all hooked as long as there is a fast forward button on the remote and the jump button stops at the beginning of the next great race scene.

Well, the 70's were cool times FOR SURE! I remember my family partying, having jobs with good incomes. They were buying houses and motorcycles and cars and there was all this great food every time we got together. Plus, the Ferrari 308 was the ultimate Ferrari available!

I think Rush will be awesome because the cars of that period are still cared for and running and don't need to be regenerated as computer graphics. I like the movie Pearl Harbor for the attack scenes but most of the fight scenes are computer generated or enhanced. Plus the mellow drama romance is just too much for me. So I hope that Rush is a raw, analog, swingin' 70's movie that makes Jackie Stewart and Emerson Fittipaldi blush and John Travolta jealous.

I hope the only soundtrack is a glorious V-12 engine at full throttle.

I hope that any blonde chick in the movie is loosely dressed and not strutting around in a trench coat hiding all her goodies.

It's always like that. Just hope he didn't add the 'fast and furious' touch, which is an absolute deal-breaker for me. When I checked the first out of curiosity (DVD of course :D), I turned it off right after the first 'bridge race', where it took 5 minutes of racing a 300' bridge, only to find out they were just halfway, even though they were well over the ton, and still had a lot of throttle left. Oh, and the V8 sounds on 4-cyl cars was epic too. I don't know how people can watch that crap. And still call it a 'car movie'. If I see positive testimonials on this movie' I might watch in on video. If not, won't even bother, just like all those F&F sequels.

I thought the trailer was quite impressive, to me a more appealing movie to watch than Senna.

That scene in the trailer, they aren't explaining to Hunt who Lauda is, they're explaining to the audience who Lauda is.

We need to accept the fact that Rush is not for the Tifosi, or even the casual petrolhead.

It's for the masses. The focus isn't on the racing, it will be on the characters involved, and they will be exaggerated versions of the real people.

Go back and watch Grand Prix, the greatest F1 movie to date, and tell me that isn't like a soap opera.

Besides all that, these are trailers. They are advertising and cannot be used to determine the actual quality of a film. Studios have to sell you the whole movie in 2 minutes, without giving everything away, so trailers are always skewed in one direction or another.

I am confident that with the people involved Rush is going to be a good movie for the masses.

I am also confident that the petrolheads will dislike the CGI and bemoan the off track drama.

Ron Howard makes great movies. I'm going to have Splash, Cocoon, Willow, Parenthood, Backdraft, Far And Away, Apollo 13 and Frost/Nixon in mind as I anticipate Rush.

I'll try and forget How The Grinch Stole Christmas...

And a pretty bad soap opera at that.

Rush will blow all these classics away and become the new top racing movie.

As long as it's not as bad as Driven...

In all seriousness, I have quite a bit of confidence in this being a badass movie.

I remember, I think the director, of Grand Prix saying it wouldn't be possible to make another film about racing like that these days. Grand Prix was and is the greatest movie about racing ever made, I highly doubt Rush can come close to that...
    I'm looking forward to it!

IMHO there are better racing movies than Grand Prix and I'm pretty sure Rush will leave it in the dust.
