Didn't find any threads about this place, so here's one. Been meaning to check this place out for a while, so yesterday after dropping a friend off at O'Hare stopped by on the way back to Milwaukee (Russel Road exit right on the IL/WI border). If you have any interest in machines, unusual MIL machines in particular, you'll find this a very, VERY cool place. I spend about 3 hours walking around inside and out, then another hour talking with the owner Mark. He's got a story about each and every piece in the collection: The Mi-24 Hind heli he brought over from Eastern Europe (the US Military owns the only other 3 in the US), the Sherman tanks he bought in Israel and Argentina, the F-15 (84th off the line) he bought for far less than it's titanium is worth to the scrap man, etcetcetc. They should seriously have a TV show about Mark and his wife tracking down spare jet engines, tanks, spare Cobra blade sets etc. I took more pics of the planes&helis than tanks, troop carriers, jeeps etc but if you're a tank buff on Sept 24/25th they'll be crushing cars with one Go check it out, well worth the $10 admission. http://www.russellmilitarymuseum.com/ my pics: http://s180.photobucket.com/albums/x155/kedelbach/2011%209%2010%20Russel%20Military%20museum/?start=all Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for reminder. My son (at Culver ,Black Horse Troop Alpha),a military buff, always begged me to take him there. Will do,as soon as he is on leave....
Very cool museum. I think it moved a few years ago from a location farther north up the interstate. I went to the museum on the way back from Road America last summer. Considering that its a hobby it is an amazing collection. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 2012
Hopefully that'll be soon, before winter hits That's right, Mark said up to about 10 years ago it was located just north in WI, but the state claimed eminent domain on the property for development, so he moved(!). From the sound of it he and his wife are open to selling since they're not getting any younger, but so far no offers close to what he's got into it have been received. When I came back into the entrance area from the walkabout he was on the office PC bidding on a jet engine in TX, cursed when the price went higher than he wanted to pay, then came out and just shot the **** with me for an hour. Neat guy!
