Guys, Thought I would share some photos. These are 2 month old OEM Ferrari rotors on my 360 Spider. Never seem the rain, and only 3 car washes.. Amazing how quickly they rust especially compared to the 12 year original rotors on the rear.. Anyway, buffed them back with steel wool and painted them with Rustoleum high heat silver.. Hopefully it will last a few years.. did all four corners in day. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks nice, better than the rusty crusty look!!!! When I wash my 360 with Giro-Disc rotors, the rotors get a quick light yellowish rust within 30 minutes. It rubs off once I apply the brakes. The hats are anodized aluminum so there is little else to rust.
I have been running them for a few years and I like them. They aren't Brembo big brakes but they aren't the cost either. Plus they look great.
Try GiroDisc or Baer rotors. The unswept areas are anodized or zinc-coated. They look good for many years, and of course the aluminum hats reduce unsprung weight.
Next time it would be best to apply some grey, zinc colored primer first...in fact a couple coats of that is what many manufacturers use. If you want, you can apply paint over that. It is strange that Brembo still doesn't put paint on their rotors, except when sold through oem manufacturers. The aftermarket Brembo ones I have bought never have the primer, and had to apply myself. For that reason I put Zimmerman brand on my BMW the most recent time. They come with zinc primer.
Thanks for the advice.. Hopefully the paint will outlast the rotors... depends on how many track days I do ... Funny, I am about to replace all 4 rotors/pads on my E46 BMW with Zimmermans... didn't even know they come primed..
Something I have been using is Wurth SBS Treatment on the rotors and rotor hats. It will not be as long lasting as paint, but is very easy to apply, you do not need to mask off the parts and looks good for maybe 6 to 9 months then have to re-apply. Painting is best way to go, but for lazy dudes like me ... you might want to try this stuff. SBS Brake Treatment Spray II | Specialty Brake | Chemical Product | Wurth Site Here is link where I originally posted this tip ... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q-sponsored-algar-ferrari/477088-wheel-hub-beautification-technique.html What I really like about Wurth SBS is that all you have to do is wipe off loose rust and dirt, and spray this on. It is not a paint. It has powdered aluminum and some solvent. Over spray wipes right off. Spray it on the hubs / rotors and you are good to go. The downside, is that the coating is not permanent. But it looks good for a few months then you have re do it. Steve
Yeah, the call it "Z-coat" or something like that. Stock pads are the best performing for BMWs, but dust like crazy...Akebono Euro Ceramic are the lowest dusting,,,but poor brake feel. The one people like currently as the best "compromise" between low dusting and very close to oem "bite" and feel are the Hawk Performance Ceramics....I haven't tried them myself...still using the Akebonos...which seem to last forever.
I used simple flat primer and it's worked like a charm for the past 4 years. I do like the high heat silver though!
I was curious what the costs of new brake discs (rotors) are. So, I checked around. Checked for Stop Tech Rotors as there were several who gave them a good thumbs up. Couldn't find any for the Ferrari 360, but I am sure they are out there. Checked Ricambi for rotors ... Ferrari P/N 182606. Ricambi wants $350 each. Checked Eurospares for Ferrari P/N 182606 ... they have special deal going on selling these rotors for $104 each. $416 for a set of 4. Methinks that is great deal. I just ordered a set, including shipping ... $481 for a set of 4 that includes FedEx express shipping. Steve
Sounds like a good deal Steve, do you use the OEM pads?.. By the way, really enjoying the Forza Exhaust bypass remote. My new Twin Sound Capristo arrived yesterday, just need my mechanic to find the time to install it.. Can't wait Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Gordon, Thanks. With that Capristo twin sound, your car should sound really sweet. I put the Ferrari racing exhaust on my 360 last year. It sounds great. I think the Capristo has a more F1 sound ... but, that is only what I am told. Actually, I put new pads on the existing rotors a few months back. I used EBC Red Stuff pads. They squealed a bit at first, but after bedding in, noise has completely gone away. I quite like them. They brake hard, have good feel and much less dust than OEM pads. I got the set of rotors because Eurospares has them on sale ... promotion ends Oct 31. That is smoking deal and I want them as a spare set. I believe that if I ever want to sell them I can probably get what I paid for them or more. Regards, Steve
Here you go... Same part for both the 360 and 430. https://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=230_995 I got them on a sale for $825/axle. But $481 for all 4 is a great deal!
The rotors are doing well after a number of years use... maybe 20+k miles, on my second set of Ferodo pads, two track days at Sebring (short course). When these pads wear down, I will have the rotors measured. I may just order a full replacement set of the discs as the aluminum hats are reusable. I have a set of 2001 OEM 360 rotors with about 18 k miles on them sitting around. If someone is interested, please pm me with an offer.
