Maybe the Eeuropean side should be reduced to only the Brits, Scots, and Irish again. Wouldn't that be funny (in a sad, ironic kind of way)... Don't know why we 'mercuns can't develop the comradery that the Euros seem to have. Hell, we're all from the same country and speak the same language!
Same reasons we suck at Int'l Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, Motorsports, and about everything else you can name: We either don't take it seriously enough, we don't care enough ($$$), or we dropped the fundamentals (ie: BASKETBALL) 35 years ago.
It doesn't help when the #2 player in the world (Boobs Mickelson), walks around grinning after each pathetic effort. What a waste of so much skin.
How big is the $$$$ purse in the ridercup? Perhaps, this is where the answer lies in their "underachieving performance"
There is no official "purse" for the Ryder Cup players. They might have travel expenses paid by the PGA, but that's about it. My interpritation overall is that Europe simply works better and plays better as a team than the US. If you took the 12 best US players right off the world ranking you'd have to get down to something like #39 or #40 to round out our team. As such there 28 other players in the world ranked inside the top 40. That's enough to feild 2 opposing teams (obviously not all european). There are a lot of great players around the world...we don't own the sport any longer. And a lot of our guys played well in all sessions and simply got beat.
Funny I should mention what I did above, this story came out today: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=kreidler_mark&id=2599184&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos2
You mean YOU suck...... lol. I was glad to see my mate Sergio Garcia, who actually used to drive a 460 Spider (and I believe now owns a SLR, but not quite sure about the Ferraris...) up there again, leading it.
