From what I can remember, my Capristos droned between 2-4k, similar to the oem setup actually. And at the time I didn't have a tune w the Capristo setups. I wasn't getting any "gunshots" w the capristo setup either, overrun / gurgles but never shots. I ran capristo cats at the beginning and then tried their test pipes. Then when I went exploring into the 4-1 world, that's when the low-end drone I had before went away and that's when the "gun shots" came onto the scene! Then when the 4-1 setup went in, I shortly then upgraded my airbox then got the tune together when the airbox went in. I wonder if it has anything to do w fuel grade? I'm running only 91oct
I run 91 as well. I was only getting drone in a very small range (less than 500rpm) with both setups. For me, both fabspeed and capristo had some gurgling when letting off the gas but the capristos have more sudden loud pops/bangs. I didn't get those at all with the fabspeed. I guess we may never know why one car sounds different than another even when most of the components are similar. One thing I failed to do is an ECU reset after swapping the headers. Wonder if this would have evened out the power curve. Another possibility is that the S-line xpipe design has changed slightly over time. One things for sure either way, the sound is better than stock!
In what rev band were you downshifting to get those pops/bangs w the capristo? maybe i was doing it wrong lol...if you didn't notice from the videos, i am also getting pops/bangs on upshifts. It happens a lot when I am in the lower rev range and upshifting through 3rd-5th at cruising speeds.
I've noticed it on upshifts too sometimes. I dont know if I've been able to pinpoint a specific rpm where it happens. Things are definitely more "poppy" when accelerating hard and then letting off, similar to your video.
I just noticed Nouvalari has an interesting header design different from the other mentioned brands. Havent heard of anyone running it though. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just want to provide an update to anyone still toying with the scud exhaust. I ended up going back to OEM cats with my setup. Previously I had the capristo 200 cell cats. So its now the s-line, OEM cats and capristo headers. I probably lost about 10-20% volume, but the tradeoff was worth it IMO. The car drives much smoother and accelerates off the line much quicker. With the capristo cats, there was a very noticeable hesitation from a stand still, so much so that I would often be afraid to pull into traffic. The sound is also much less bassy now and the drone is reduced. I also noticed a definite improvement in low end power. This actually caught me by surprise the first time I did a pass on the highway with this new setup. Some of the ferociousness has been lost at the top end, but overall I'm much happier with the improved drivability. It's still high pitched and the sound is smoother throughout the rpm range. Previously it was very bassy down low and then did a quick shift to high pitch around 5k. I also prefer the idle now where as before it felt a little agricultural. Also I should note that my car had a stock tune with both setups. I'm guessing some of these issues with the capristo cats could have been resolved with a tune. Will try to get a sound clip soon.
Koop, you need a tune you are leaving power on the table + optimization of air/fuel and driveability.
Koop, glad it worked out. I wouldn't necessarily chase for louder (with the Capristo cats) as the higher end top pitch is more the pure F1 sound that Ferrari is known for.
Agreed. But my personal preference is to leave the tune stock The top end was still high pitch with the capristos. It was just very bassy in the lower rpm range. The sound with the OEM cats is more uniform
Koop, did this also reduce the "gun shots" or after run? I would kinda assume so... I have a stock set up, but with the Forza Componenti, I will once in a while get a mild back fire on down shift. I noticed you had it very loudly and often with your previous set up.
Oddly enough, the loud overrrun sounds reduced dramatically even with my initial setup after a few hundred miles. Perhaps the ECU needed time to adjust. With stock cats, there are still overrun burbles, but the lound bang/pops are rare.
Hi Freshmeat! Would you mind sharing what's your exhaust set up in that YouTube video? I have an s-line on my scud now but would love to have the pops and crackles. Thank you!!!
