Hi this morning I spotted this 1954 250 GT Europa being driven as a regular car! couldn't believe my eyes until I hear it from the driver I asked the guy who was driving about the car and he answered :this car was bought by his father brand new (he even has pics of Enzo Il Commendatore himself and his father when he took delivery of this car in Modena more than 50 years ago! then he told me: the car was sold in the 70s and it has travelled around the world by different collectors hands and a few years ago his family decided to recover the car no matter what. Tipe 103 motor: 0349EU original owner Mr.Salgado from Mexico is anyone familiar with this car? does anyone know details in this story? can someone confirm or refuse this story? the car has never been restored and it reads 42 280 kilometers in the clock I hope my 1000th post written in broken english is worthy and interesting more pics if anyone is interested Image Unavailable, Please Login
Martin, more pics please it's sooooo rare to see something like a 250 Europa being driven on the streets for any reason other than going to a car show, hat's off to the owner for using it and enjoying it
From my archives here are the old invoices, shipping documents and even the exhibitor pass for the October 1954 Paris motor show where 0349 EU was shown and sold when brand new. Unbelievable !!! you Marcel Masini you're amazing!!! I bet the current owner doesn't even know those doucments he'll be happy to see them can't wait to run and tell him according to my source: only 18 of these EUROPA were built. I wonder how many are still in the road today and being driven hard! btw the guy also owns a Maserati MEXICO ... I know nothing about MEXICO shame on me. hey Marcel did you know it was back in Mexico again? any other interesting Mexican vintage you may know of?
Read history I posted in post #3. There are about two dozen vintage Ferraris in Mexican ownership but most are stored in USA. Marcel Massini
<<November 10, 1954 Shipped on vessel S/S Andrea Doria from Genova/Italy via New York to Veracruz-Toluca, Mexico>> Good thing it didn't take the July 1956 passage! I wonder if any great cars are still in the hold? T308
T308, There are quite a few significant cars in the hold. Including several show cars commissioned by detroit. I don't know if there are any ferraris though. Regards, Art S.
Great looking car and great thread. Thanks Miura Jota for posting the picture and to Marcel for the astonishing info on this car. Anybody have an idea what the unit is mounted under the dash? Thanks, Al Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Andrea Doria had NO Ferraris on board at the time of the accident. But lots of other interesting cars, some show cars and many Lancias. Marcel Massini
I don't get it... This car is not big mystery. Just super nice and original. It has passed through my hands quite a few times. It has been in and out of Mexico many times since the early 1990s. The last time I had the car come my way it was a gift from a long-time client for my efforts and help with his collection. I used it on a few road rally / tour events. It was also one of my daily drivers for a few months before I sold it back to a client in Mexico who wishes to remain unkown. Really super original fun car. Our shop did a full rebuild on the gearbox, axle, brakes and rear-end but left the cosmetics exaclty as PF did them when new. Cheers, Bill
Mr. Massini, Your knowledge never ceases to amaze me!!!!! Since you seem to have knowledge of this, do you know where one could find a list of what cars were on the Andrea Doria?? Respectfully, Patrick
According to the Andrea Doria website there were only 9 cars on board in their garage which could hold up to 50 cars. These being: A Chrysler Concept car called the Norseman built by Ghia 2 Rolls Royces, one belonging to Edward Parker of Miami Beach who was on the return leg of his honeymoon A VW bus
Here is a link to the Andrea Doria web site: http://www.andreadoria.org/. There is a lot of interesting information.
Good to see it not tucked away in a garage or museum for eternity. Marcel, do you have a house full of Ferrari pictures and documents?!?! The amount of documentation you have is incredible.
Great trip down memory lane for me! My first f-car was 0331EU, identical except for paint, and shipped by Merzario (same family as the racer). Thanks!
here's more INFO I just found http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0349EU.250Europa.htm
